The Tales of Beedle the Bard

The Tales of Beedle the Bard is a book of children's stories. J.K. Rowling wrote five stories for the book.

  • "The Wizard and the Hopping Pot"
  • "The Fountain of Fair Fortune"
  • "The Warlock's Hairy Heart"
  • "Babbitty Rabbitty and her Cacling Stump"
  • "The Tale of the Three Brothers"

My Favourite Tale

"The Warlock's Hairy Heart"

The story is about a young and handsome warlock who decides to never fall in love. However, one day, he hears two servants whispering about him not having a wife, so he decides to find a talented, rich, and beautiful woman and marry her to gain everyone's jealousy.

He meets a witch the next day and she tells him that she needs to know he has a heart. The warlock shows her his beating hairy heart inside a crystal casket in his dungeon. The witch begs him to put it back inside himself. The warlock does so. However, his heart has developed savage tastes as it has changed into an animalistic state since the heart has been parted from its body for so long.

He is forced to take out a real human heart, so he tears out the witch's heart to replace his own. However finding that he cannot use magic to take the hairy heart out of his chest, he cuts it out with a dagger. Thus he and the witch both die, with him holding both hearts in his hands.

This is the darkest of the fives tales in The Tales of Beedle the Bard. I feel so sad for the warlock and the witch at the end. Although they both die, their love aned hearts will be together forever. I love the whole story because it is the most outstanding yet very deep story.

My Favourite Quote

"No man or woman alive, magical or not, has ever escaped some form of injury, whether physical, mental, or emotional."
To hurt is as human as to breathe."

— J.K. Rowling, The Tales of Beedle the Bard

I love these two meaningful quotes because they both tell us that life is not as easy as we think. We have to be in different emotions and stages of our lives. These quotes can also encourage people who are having difficulties in their lives to understand that we all may have been hurt sometimes no matter who we are.

My Review

I think this is a great and cute addition to the Harry Potter series. I highly admire J.K. Rowling that she can create such amazing and unique fairy tales from the wizarding worlds. I especially love the tales about the hairy heart and the three brothers. If you love fairy tales and Harry Potter, I'm pretty sure you're going to love these tales as well!
