Literature In the Elizabethan Era was mainly focused on poetry and drama.

William Shakespeare, a writer from the Elizabethan Era

"English literature flowered during the Elizabethan Age, with the work of such writers as Francis Bacon, Ben Jonson, Christopher Marlowe, Edmund Spenser, and William Shakespeare"(Bumgardner)."

A few flourishing writers were Francis Bacon, Ben Jonson, Christopher Marlowe, Edmund Spenser, and of course, William Shakespeare. This provides evidence that literature was an important part of the Elizabethan Age.

"During this period, usually called the Elizabethan Age, English writers produced some of the greatest poetry and drama in world literature (White)"

Some of the greatest poetry and drama was created during The Elizabethan Era. This shows that during this period poets and playwrights were the main fixation.


Edmund Spencer, the poet

Lyric poetry was very common and drama made it a tradition. This shows that poetry was very popular in this age.

Sir Thomas Wyatt created some of the best sonnet poetry of his time. This demonstrates that this time period had fine poetry.

A successful narrative of the Elizabethan Era was "The Faerie Queene" by Spenser. This depicts that in this Era narrative poetry was widespread.


William Shakespeare, the playwright

Shakespeare was the most clever playwright in the Elizabethan Age. Drama was a very common form of literature because of Shakespeare.

This era produced one of the best writer's, Shakespeare. This displays that Shakespeare's plays were in high demand.

Playwrights affect their theaters. This shows that they are influences to literature.

Drama's popularity increased after Burbag's opened in 1576. This shows that drama was quite favorable.
