Senior News You Can Use March 2017 Edition

Graduation Date and Time Now Officially Set!!

It's Now Official!!!!! The Class of 2017 will hold its commencement exercises on Thursday, May 18, at 7:00 p.m. at the Owensboro Sportscenter.

Students will receive their caps, gowns, graduation announcements, mugs and/or tankards on April 18th. Items will be available for pick up during students' lunch shifts. Items must be paid in full to be taken home. If you need to make final payments, please log onto the website to pay with a debit or credit card. If you are unsure if a balance remains, please call or e-mail me and I will check the account balance list for you.

Will a professional photographer be taking pictures during graduation? No, but better yet a senior video will be available for purchase. The video will include three photos of every senior (who turns them in) as well as the entire graduation ceremony. Each senior will be videoed in close range as they receive their diploma and shake hands with school officials. DVDs are available for $20. Pre-orders are being taken at this time. You may e-mail Melissa Morris to reserve your copy. Also, seniors who have not done so need to turn in a baby picture (or age 5 and younger), a group photo with their friends, and a senior picture to Melissa Morris. Deadline for photos for the video is Monday, May 1st by 3:15 p.m. Electronic photos sent directly to Ms. Morris are preferred, but she will also accept hard copies of photos and they will be returned to students. Project Graduation will be on Thursday, May 18th, the night of graduation, from 10:00 p.m. until 2:00 a.m. at Apollo High School. This is a safe evening of fun and activities for seniors enjoy, including: inflatables, a video gaming room, scavenger hunt with prizes, games, plenty of food and lots of great door prizes. Each senior is asked to pay $5.00 when signing up to help cover expenses. Sign ups will begin on May 1st at school outside of the attendance office. Mark Your Calendars Now:

There will be a spring senior parent meeting on Monday, April 17th, at 6:00 p.m. in the AHS Auditorium. Meeting will last approximately one hour and will cover these topics: important end of the year dates and activities, final AHS transcripts, KEES money, scholarships, college information, Honors Night information, graduation practice and ceremony information, and Senior Week activities. Don't miss this important opportunity to receive firsthand information that will be shared with all seniors during their senior meeting during a school assembly.

Your Day for Help:

FAFSA Finale Day on April 28th at Apollo! Casi Clark, our representative from KHEAA (Ky Higher Education Assistance Authority) will be in the College and Career Center, room 101, at Apollo on Friday, April 28th to assist students and family members with filing FAFSA, FAFSA verification process, KEES money, financial aid for college, student loans, and with understanding student financial aid packages and scholarship awards letters. She will be available from 8:30 - 3:00. No appointments are necessary. You may call the guidance office if you have any questions.

Spring break is April 3rd- April 7th.

Senior Honors Night will be Thursday, May 4th at 6:00 p.m. in the AHS auditorium. Refreshments will be served in the Commons Area at 5:30. Please have your student to bring their scholarship award offers letters to the guidance office so we can have that information gathered and your son or daughter can receive recognition on Honors Night. We do not want to leave any student's names and awards out but we are dependent on students and parents to share information with us to include in our program for that night.
