How to Live a Healthy Life For girls 14-18

Step 1: Eat a healthy diet based off of the MyPlate Food Guide

What is a healthy diet? A healthy diet is consuming from all the different food groups in the right quantities.
Why is a healthy diet important? Eating healthy is important because it helps you maintain your body’s everyday functions
Teenage girls 14-18 should consume 2,000 calories each day

The first food group is: Grains.

6-8 servings a day is the required amount for girls to eat.

Examples of 1 serving are: 1 slice of bread, 1 oz. of dry cereal, or 1/2 cup of cooked rice, pasta, or cereal.

The second food group is: Protein

Girls 14-18 need to have less than 6 oz. of protein everyday

Examples of 1 serving are: 3 oz. cooked meat, or 3 oz. grilled fish

The third food group is: Fruits

4-5 servings is the appropriate amount of fruit to eat daily

Examples of 1 serving are:1 medium fruit, 1/2 cup of fresh fruit, or 1/4 cup of dried fruit

The fourth food group is: Vegetables

4-5 servings of vegetables daily are also the recommended amount to eat
Examples of 1 serving is: 1 cup of raw leafy vegetables, 1/2 cup of cooked vegetables

The fifth and final food group is: Dairy

2-3 servings of dairy is the right amount to have everyday
Examples of 1 serving is: 1 cup of low-fat or fat-free milk/yogurt, or 1 1/2 cup of low-fat or fat-free cheese

How can eating a healthy diet affect your ability to live a healthy and balanced life?

Taking in the same number of calories as you burn make sure your weight remains steady over time.

The nutrients in the foods you eat can protect your cells from environmental damage

The nutrients could repair any cellular damage that might occur

Exercising can also help you balance a healthy lifestyle

Step 2: Exercising

When you exercise for at least 1 hour a day, it can help you burn off some of the calories you had that day

Some examples are: Bicycling, running, walking, or swimming

When you combine eating right and exercising it will help you maintain a good and balanced life

When you eat right everyday and exercise for 1 hour everyday, you can life a healthy and balanced life
