Garden News

Earlier this year a group of fantastic and energetic people met to restore some sort of tidiness to our school garden. The group weeded, cleaned up and we managed to get rid of some junk that had accumulated. The garden looked fantastic. A huge thank you to those that came and helped out. Unfortunately the chickens and geese were a bit too young to go straight to work when they arrived. Once they grew a bit they however have been doing a fantastic job keeping the weeds down. Another downside with the chickens was that they were all roosters! So no eggs. Planting happened in the garden and we have tomatoes and watermelon thriving and sunflowers ready to bloom. The reticulation has been restored and the garden beds all now have water. Over the summer holidays the geese and chickens will be re-homed and some of the garden beds rested ready for a fantastic 2017 in our school garden. A waste wise and reduce ,reuse, recycle approach will be reinvigorated. Food scraps will be turned into eggs, hen house bedding turned into plant food and new chickens and geese to help us out. We are excited about the learning opportunities that the garden will provide and are looking forward to getting the garden super productive in 2017. Happy & safe holidays to everyone.

Ms Alison East & Mrs Niomi Johnson.

We understand that this is a busy time of year and would like to remind parents to please inform our school if you will be leaving Newman for good or for early school holidays.

You can contact the school on 9175 1061, by advising your teacher or using the SNPS skoolbag app.

This will be greatly appreciated for end of term activities and in our school planning for 2017.

Thank you
