Pacing Tips and Updates

When you are pacing and planning to the TN Ready testing window and you need to combine days in your Ready Math lesson, consider combining Guided and Independent Practice Days or combine Lesson Quizzes or Unit Assessments.

The revised TN State Math Standards (4.MD.A.1 & 2 and 5.MD.A.1) were not reflected in this year's Ready Math print materials. Teachers will need to rely on the Teacher Toolbox for the most updated information. Please make sure your 4th and 5th grade teachers are aware of these revisions:

4th grade Unit 5 (Measurement and Data)- Lessons 23, 24 and 25 that appear in your hardcopy textbooks and teacher editions do not need to be taught. The Ready Instruction Book pdfs on the Toolbox will note this information. To supplement, the Toolbox has updated lessons to use instead (23A, 23B, and 24A). Please use these three lessons in place of lessons 23, 24, and 25. Please review assessment resources in Ready Math to reflect the revised TN standards (students in 4th grade do not need to convert measurements.)

5th grade Unit 4 (Measurement and Data)- Lessons 21 and 22 that appear in your hardcopy textbooks and teacher editions do not need to be taught. The Ready Instruction Book pdfs on the Toolbox will note this information. To supplement, the Toolbox has updated lessons to use instead (21A and 21B). Please use these two lessons in place of lessons 21 and 22. Please review assessment resources in Ready Math to reflect the revised TN standards (students in 5th grade only need to convert larger units to smaller units.)

This team is creating spiral reviews based on our TN Ready data "hot spots" that teachers can use for their daily warm-ups. Each week of warm-up activities will connect to the same standard in different ways. These will be emailed to instructional coaches and can be found here.

Dustin has created TN Ready review flipcharts. They are located in the Google drive linked here.

The discourse of a classroom- the ways of representing, thinking, talking, agreeing, and disagreeing- is central to what and how students learn mathematics. (NCTM, 2007)
Mathematical discussion is viewed as "a primary mechanism for developing conceptual understanding and meaningful learning of mathematics." (NCTM 2014)
