Let's Get it Write! Emily Henderson

Introduction

In this WebQuest, we will be engaged in standard CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.L.K.1.A, which states that students must print many upper- and lowercase letters. You will explore the world of Uppercase and Lowercase letters using videos, and matching games. You will even be able to write their own letters by the end! Let's get started!

Task

By the end of the WebQuest, you will be able to write your own Uppercase and Lowercase letters.

CONTENT: In this WebQuest, you will learn a fun song to help you recall the alphabet. Then, you will have a fun story read to you about upper and lowercase letters. After, you will play a fun game where you will match the upper and lowercase letters. Finally, you will write both upper and lowercase letters.

Process

1. Recall the Letters

Listen to this song, and write the letter in the air as you see it! Today we will be looking for upper and lowercase letters. See if you can find any in this video!

2. Search for the Letters

Chicka Chicka Boom Boom is a classic story by Bill Martin Jr. While listening to this story, look for letters that look similar. Maybe one is just a bigger version of the other! Pay attention to what the big letters do!

3. Matching the Letters

During this game, you will be asked to match the Uppercase letter with its lowercase partner. Pay special attention to which letters look like each other, and which do not. Play this game until you feel fully confident and ready to write!

4. Let's Get to Writing!

Begin by writing the lowercase letters. Follow along carefully to prevent error. Be sure to follow the outlines of the letters as you would write them normally. When finished, Miss. Emily will come check for accuracy and completion.

5. MORE LETTERS!

Wasn't that fun?! Let's continue the adventure by writing some uppercase letters! Follow along carefully to prevent error. Be sure to follow the outlines of the uppercase letters as you would write them normally. When finished, Miss. Emily will come check for accuracy and completion!

Evaluation

Work will be evaluated using the iRubric below.

Conclusion

Wahoo! You've not only learned how to match upper and lowercase letters, but you can write them too! I'm so proud of you! If you're finished before the rest of the class, or you would just like to learn more, click these links!
