Pride is about visibility and creating a sense of belonging for people who may not have it. For those who are out it is a celebration and for those who are still struggling with their identities, Pride is a place of solace and a place of safety. Abergavenny Pride aim to ensure that people, especially younger people, feel completely accepted by attending an event which is primarily social but also has on hand information and support should they wish to make use of it.
They will use the monies awarded this year to pay for entertainers and an area for children to make this event more accessible for everyone.
Abergavenny Pride were nominated for Making A Difference award in 2019 for the positive impact that they had on their community. They were very worthy runners up.
Abergavenny Pride is a perfect example of how Pitch For Your Project Funding can help you with an idea to bring your community together. This project was founded by four Abergavenny residents that had an idea, pitched to us and then through sheer determination and passion pulled together a valuable and much needed community event. Abergavenny Pride now kindly offer to mentor any future applicants through the process of Pitch. So let their story be an inspiration to your project and start thinking what you can do to bring your community together. Our next round opens in September.
Due to the coronavirus, this year’s pride event that is due to take place in July may be postponed but what a party it will be when it can go ahead. Giving you time to make a grand costume or make your own flag to take and celebrate, get as creative as you can! We will update you as soon as we can on the date of Pride 2020. Until then keep smiling, get creating and stay safe.
