Term 4 Week 8 Newsletter 2019

The school is buzzing with a myriad of events and activities with less than three weeks left until the end of the 2019 school year. Our teachers are working hard at the same time to finalise and assess the learning and progress of every child and are writing the end of year reports. Our first day back for Years 1-6 will be Wednesday 29 January in 2020. If your child will be taking an extended holiday and won’t be at school on the first day of Term 1, please email Mrs Bright immediately.

Fostering a Partnership with Wilcannia Central School

Four of our teachers have spent this week working out at Wilcannia Central School in the far west of NSW. The team have been sharing our Vision for Learning and providing professional learning to the WCS team. They have also had the opportunity to teach across the K-6 classes. I am looking forward to welcoming the team back to Anzac Park on Thursday and look forward to a continued collaboration with this wonderful school community.

Inspirational Student Leadership at Anzac Park

A huge congratulations goes to all candidates who nominated to stand for leadership positions in 2020. All students presented engaging and interesting speeches about their leadership qualities and how they as leaders hope to make a positive difference. This enthusiastic response clearly shows the diligent and responsible nature of our students. It definitely made the voting process extremely hard for our students as all candidates would undoubtedly make inspirational leaders. The 2020 leadership positions were announced at our assembly last week and I am looking forward to working closely with our student leaders in the new year.

2020 Executive Leadership Team

Our outstanding leadership team will continue their great work in 2020 and grow to reflect our growing school community. Their roles will be as follows:

  • Mrs Amy Sackville - Deputy Principal
  • Ms Melanie Shields – Assistant Principal Kindergarten
  • Ms Cassie Hide– Assistant Principal Year 1
  • Miss Holly Wilson - A/Assistant Principal Year 2
  • Ms Lydia Janabi – Assistant Principal Stage 2
  • Mr Jeremy Hart – Assistant Principal Stage 3
  • Miss Renee Vandenberg - A/Assistant Principal Inclusive Education

End of Year Disco

Our End of Year Disco will be held this Friday 6 December in the school hall. This year we will have three discos for the different age groups during school hours. All students can wear mufti clothes to school on Friday. We are looking forward to seeing our students in their best disco outfits!

Mountain Top

Our end of year Mountain Top evening will be held on Thursday 12 December. This will be an opportunity for our community to come together to share in the wonderful gains of all of our students. Students are currently working hard on their projects to “put on the Mountain Top” and I am looking forward to a wonderful community evening. Given the warmer weather, we will be holding a community picnic between 6pm-7pm and then open classrooms between 7pm-8pm.

2020 Class Formation

At the beginning of the 2020 school year, we will need to wait until Kindergarten enrol on Monday 3 February to finalise enrolments and staffing. Students will return to their 2019 classes on Wednesday 29 January for a couple of days. Over these days, all students in Years 1-6 will participate in a student well-being program to ensure that all students at Anzac Park have a consistent understanding of our core expectations. Our students in Years 3-6 will also attend our annual swimming carnival on Monday 3 February. While I appreciate children and parents are excited to join their new teacher and class as soon as possible, it is far better to wait a couple of days rather than settle children into classes and then have to make changes if our student numbers alter. At this stage, our student enrolment numbers are extremely variable meaning we will need to wait until the first week back in 2020 to confirm numbers, staffing and classes. I appreciate your patience and understanding with this matter. Families can assist me in this process by:

  • Asking other families who have not yet enrolled, to contact us as a matter of urgency.
  • Informing us if you are moving out of the area and your child will not be returning to Anzac Park in 2020.
  • Ensuring we have notification in writing if your child will be returning late at the beginning of the 2020 school year so that we can hold a place for them.

2019 First Lego League Team

A great experience was had at this year's FLL Robotics Regional at Wahroonga. All students put in some awesome presentations and performances. We performed well in the innovation category and teamwork components. A big thank you to Mr Burfoot, Mr Drewe and Mr Still. We would also like to thank Mrs Hirschel for designing a very popular T Shirt for the team.

Friday of Week 7 brought the end of yet another extremely successful year of PSSA at Anzac Park Public School. To finish the year off we had Stage 2 and Stage 3 participating in T-Ball at Tunks Park, and Stage 3 also participating in Oz Tag at Blackman Park. All of our amazing staff involved in the Term 4 PSSA coaching constantly highlighted the commitment and sportsmanship shown by the students at both the competition games and at training.

We would like to congratulate all the PSSA representatives from 2019 for displaying Anzac Park’s core values each and every time they left the school to play. I would also like to thank all of the teachers for their dedication and passion towards our PSSA programs, it is a lot of time and effort that is extremely appreciated by our school community.

Just a reminder to any students who received a PSSA jersey on loan this year, please bring your jersey washed to the office in order to receive your deposit back.

Looking ahead to 2020 and we are once again excited to offer the PSSA experience to another cohort joining Year 3. Our sports in 2020 will include Netball, Soccer, AFL, T-Ball and OzTag, with the potential for more sports to be added to the range.

News From The Library

Premier’s Reading Challenge certificates for 2019 have been distributed to classroom teachers to be handed out to students this week. We congratulate all of the 319 students who finished the PRC this year. Remember, now that this year’s challenge is over you can start reading books to be included in next year’s challenge!
