ART- The colour of living How Art influences you in every step of your life

Art has always been a means of communication from the very ancient time, since humans learned how to express themselves. The first signs of communication, after gestures, started with symbols and drawings on the cave walls and other places. But as the language and art evolved, art has not only been a mode of communication but something much more meaningful than that. It is therapy for your brain that directly affects your psychology.

It has an impact on the emotional and psychological behaviour of living, in our daily lives. Not only for humans, but colours can also greatly affect the mood of animals as well. For example, colours like red and yellow are usually feared by animals, as in nature they symbolise venom or poisonous or something that just isn't safe. So animals such as dogs and cats run away from humans wearing these colours or attack them if they are being forced to.

Different colours can make us feel sad, happy, anxious, stressed or can cause other behavioural changes. The colour of a room can affect how you feel, the colour of your clothes can affect how others perceive you as, and even how good the food taste. The colour of the plate you dine in, or the walls of your dining room can directly influence your appetite. For example, if you eat in a blue plate, or a red plate, you will feel less hungry and eat less as compared to when you eat in a white plate.

Art therapy is used to refer to the practice of creating a way to heal wounds of the mind or spirit. It is a technique rooted in the idea that the creative expression of emotions and thoughts can foster healing and mental well-being. Art, either creating it or viewing others' art in exhibitions or in general, is used to help people explore emotions, develop self-awareness, cope with stress, boost self-esteem, and work on social skills. And that is where Abstract art or Modern art comes in light.

“Art washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life.” – Pablo Picasso

Introduced in the 19th century, while for some, Abstract art is just a combination of lines, shapes forms and colours, for others it can be much more meaningful. A plain canvas evenly painted only in crimson red can also have various different meanings to it. Abstract art introduces the logic of perspective and an attempt to reproduce an illusion of visible reality.

There is no right or wrong answer to how you see an Abstract painting. It is open to interpretation, and that is one of the most beautiful things about it. Abstract art doesn't jump out and declare "THIS is what I'm all about." Instead, abstract art requires you to have an open, inquiring mind--- you must be curious enough to enter the painting and see where it takes you. Modern art gives you the freedom to explore the artwork and assign your own meaning to the artwork. Looking at it, and finding different meanings to it can help you reflect on your own thought process and how you see the world as.

Psychologists observed that people suffering from mental illness often expressed themselves through drawings and other artworks, which led many of them to explore the use of art as a healing strategy. Ever since then, art has become one of the most important parts of the therapeutic field and is used in assessments and treatment techniques. Other than taking your mind off stressful things, art also helps you to steady the flow of a particular state of mind. Some psychologists describe this flow as becoming deeply engrossed in an activity which can improve performance and lower stress levels.

Creating art provides a distraction that gives your brain a break from your usual upsetting thoughts. Just like appreciating an artwork, when the client creates art, they may analyze what they have made and how it makes them feel. Through exploring their art, people can look for themes and conflicts that may be affecting their thoughts, emotions, and behaviours.

Many people have a misconception that to be an artist, one has to be born with that talent or learn it intricately. However, when it comes to any form of art rejuvenating your mind on a hectic day, you need not be a professional at it. No one is born with that talent. Artists develop that skill over a period of time and genuinely fall in love with that specific art. Whether you could give a horse a run through the water or can barely draw a stick figure, art is a fantastic way to reduce your stress levels and give you and sense of calmness washing over you.
