Motor City Madness 2017 Horizon League Championship

The Horizon League Championship is being held at historic Joe Louis Arena for the second consecutive season. The Joe is the home of the NHL's Detroit Red Wings.

After arriving in Detroit late Friday afternoon, UIC hit the floor for the first time Saturday morning for a short, but highly spirited workout.

Sophomore Hassan Thomas is one of several Flames who are playing in Detroit for the second year in a row.

The student-athletes received great gifts in the locker room, including a personalized FatHead. Mike Kelly was excited to check out the finished product with the help of the Director of Player Development, Chris McMillian.

Tai Odiase was named the Horizon League Defensive Player of the Year earlier in the week. Here he spends a few minutes on the bike to get loose before taking to the court.
Michael Kolawole scored a career-high 18 points in UIC's regular season finale on Feb. 26 at Wright State.

Following the practice session, the Flames were fortunate to take a tour of the Red Wings dressing room and training facilities at Joe Louis Arena. The room features stalls for current players, and also retired legends such as Gordie Howe.

After the game, UIC head coach Steve McClain and leading scorers Tai Odiase and Dominique Matthews met with the assembled media at Joe Louis Arena to recap the 79-70 victory and look ahead to Monday's meeting with No. 10 Milwaukee.
