Mt Vesuvius & Pompeii A Page by Pria Walker

Once upon a time there was a volcano named Mt. Vesuvius and a small town named Pompeii on the west coast of Italy. In 79 A.D., Mt. Vesuvius figured enough was enough and decided to erupt. This eruption destroyed Pompeii and surrounding cities. This mighty eruption buried the ancient city of Pompeii. Because of the way the ash settled, Pompeii and its artifacts were perfectly preserved. The remains of Pompeii were found intact in 1700 by explorers.

Mt. Vesuvius has not erupted since 1944...we're still waiting on the day it decides that enough is enough...again!
