Autumn has arrived, and with it many transitions. During this season, evening comes sooner and temperatures drop. The anticipation of winter causes anxiety for some people and wildlife struggles to survive.

“The autumnal equinox is the beginning of astronomical autumn which ends with the start of winter. In the Northern Hemisphere, that is from around September 22 to about December 22, though it varies from year to year according to NOAA.”

There are some interesting local places to visit this fall. One in particular is Waterfall Glen. The vast expanse of woodlands combined with the prairies beautifully illuminate the autumn colors. Another is Starved Rock State Park . The Little Red Schoolhouse Nature Center is another location to view the effects of autumn in suburban Cook County.
