Southern Oregon University Mallory Heard

WHO

I am an athlete, one who strives for greatness not only in the classroom but on the basketball court. Family and friends will forever be important to me. I will not only represent myself next year at Southern Oregon University but represent my family.

WHERE

Southern Oregon University is Located in Ashland, Oregon just half a hour away from my home town! Allowing me to stay close to my family, and always feel comfortable. Ashland is a great college town with a ton of easy places to walk to. Ashland is also very close to California, which has even more things to do when not busy with school work!

I plan on staying in the new dorms for my freshman year of college. With the new dorms, I will get a meal plan to have every meal in the "Hawk" (the cafeteria at SOU) Afterwards, I plan on getting an apartment in Ashland with teammates for the other three years.

WHEN

In the fall of 2017, I will begin my college life at Southern Oregon University graduating in 2021. I plan on majoring in business management with an emphasis on accounting. This major makes it possible to graduate in four to five years, I hope to graduate in four, depending on class availability.

WHAT

I will major in Business Management with an emphasis on accounting. After getting my degree in four to five years, I hope to work in the finance department at a sports company, or even a gym. Working in a business would allow me to continue to work alongside people, while working with numbers.

WHY

I decided to attend Southern Oregon University because I knew I would feel comfortable there. I also love how it is not a huge university. I chose to major in Business Management with an emphasis on accounting because I enjoy mathematics. I am very excited to start a new adventure not only in the classroom, but on the basketball court as well!

HOW

I have always known that I wanted to attend a college near my home town, when SOU showed interest in me to continue my basketball career I knew it was almost too to be true. The first thing I did was apply online, next I sent in my transcripts and SAT scores. While in the process of getting accepted, I signed my Letter of Intent (LOI) to play at SOU. The process for me to get into SOU was a little different than others due to the fact that I am going there for basketball. All I need to do now is keep applying for scholarships to lower the price of college! I need to search for more scholarships to apply for, and talk to my counselor and SOU to find even more!
