We Will Remember

Room 1 presented the Bloody Slow Assembly on Friday, October 21. Remembering the Police Officers who had lost their lives on January 26, 2001 in an aircraft tragedy. Not only has Room 1 been learning about the charitable organisation WA Police Legacy they have also raised an outstanding total of $1,200.00. Congratulations to the students of Room 1, Mrs Hollee Mason and Mrs Jonlyn Smith for your fantastic efforts and supporting such a wonderful and meaningful cause.

Below you will found out more information of the lead up to the ceremony from the students of Room 1...

In preparation for our Bloody Slow Assembly we decided as a class to head out to the crash site and learn more about the officers and what took place on Australia Day 2001. On the way to the site we got lost in the dense bush lands and luckily for us Mrs Emma Jefferies was there to help us find our way back to the crash site. When visiting the crash site we made wreaths and ‘touched the rock’ to show our respects to these officers. Sergeant McKinnon was also there to tell us about the accident and how it all unfolded.

Last term, we visited the Newman Police Station. Whilst visiting the station we were able to see firsthand how a real life police station operates and some of the different jobs our local police do around Newman. While there, Sergeant McKinnon took us for a private tour. We got to see the empty cells, practiced some forensic science with finger print testing and were lucky enough to watch an officer taser a dummy called Cuff Man.

Police Legacy is a charitable organisation who supports police families when a loved one has been lost. We felt really strongly as a class about supporting this organisation and decided to organise some fundraising events. As a class we planned, promoted and ran a number of Frog in a Pond stalls where we made over 700 cups of jelly. In total we raised $1,200.00 for Police Legacy to show our support for the dedicated work they do. We are really proud of ourselves and what we have achieved.
