Miranda Thigpen

My name is Miranda Thigpen. I graduated from Georgia Southern University in 2009 with a degree in Early Childhood Education. While at GSU, I completed my student teaching in Candler county. I am still in Candler today! I taught second grade at Metter Elementary from 2009-2016. In 2016 I was asked to embark on a new journey. My reputation for "outside the box" teaching earned me an exciting opportunity. I became the Innovative Learning Center coordinator for grades K-8.

Speed, Velocity, Addition, Subtraction with Hot Wheels.

My role as the Innovative Learning Center (ILC) coordinator is to bring new learning opportunities to our children. The goal of the center is to create, problem solve, get hands on, and explore. My job is to find new materials and activities that give real world meaning to the standards that are taught in the classroom. The best part of what I do is working with the kids! I love to see them smile when they are loving what they are doing. I love to see the light bulbs come on. I love the look of accomplishment and pride they wear on their little faces. This is truly a rewarding career.

Professional Goals: I do not know it all. I never will, but my goal is to continue learning as long as I am able. I realize that education changes quickly. I want to stay informed and on top of what works. If it will help kids, I will try it. That is the reason I chose to pursue a degree in instructional technology. Technology is a big part of our daily lives. I want my students to understand technology is a tool we use to better ourselves and to show what we know. It is not just a place for games, it is a place to learn, make, and explore.

My Beautiful Family!!

I enjoy what I do, but I am especially proud of my wonderful family! My husband, Will, is an academic coach in Candler County. I am proud of his hard work and his commitment to our students, community, and family. We share two beautiful children. Marley is 5. Eastan is 3. Travel is our hobby. We spend most of our free time on the road and making memories with our children.
