Get to know the Glendale Union High School District

For decades, GUHSD schools have been schools of choice for parents and students within the Phoenix and Glendale areas. As a nationally recognized district, GUHSD has set the standard for educational excellence. We believe all students can achieve, and we ensure students are prepared to be successful after high school.

Glendale Union High School District believes all students can be successful and ensures all students are prepared for life after high school, whether their future is to continue studies at a college or university, enroll in other postsecondary programs, enlist in the military or pursue another career. An academically challenging curriculum, combined with the district’s high standards and an emphasis on high levels of support, allows students to develop their talents, discover their potential and prepare for their future.

The public is invited to attend the regular Governing Board meetings, which are usually held on the first and third Wednesday of the month, at 7:30 p.m. in the board room at the District Administrative Center, 7650 N. 43rd Avenue, Glendale, Arizona.

GUHSD students receive an exceptional, comprehensive academic experience. Students participate in rigorous academic programs that help them be successful on a daily basis while preparing them for continued success beyond high school. While attending our high schools, students can earn college credits that are recognized and accepted by colleges and universities throughout the country. Students interested in pursuring university studies outside of the U.S. have an opportunity to earn the Advanced Placement International Diploma, a globally recognized achievement.


GUHSD is home to numerous regional and state titles. More than 76 percent of our students are involved in athletics or belong to one of more than 40 clubs and organizations offered at our schools


GUHSD is proud to promote and showcase the immense contribution arts education makes within our schools. Disciplines including dance, music, choir, theatre, media arts and visual arts are essential elements of a GUHSD education.


STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) education is vital for students’ college readiness. GUHSD continues to offer high levels of STEM courses including Advanced Placement Physics; technology-related classes such as coding and Advanced Placement Computer Sciences; engineering-related courses including Robotics and Advanced Engineering Sciences; and rigorous math courses including Advanced Placement Calculus AB and Advanced Placement Calculus BC.


GUHSD schools focus on preparing students for success after high school, whether they choose to pursue post secondary education or begin a career immediately after graduation. In addition to STEM courses, our schools offer more than 45 Career & Technical Education (CTE) courses including culinary, nursing, construction trades, fire science, home health education, welding technology, and engineering from which to choose. GUHSD’s CTE programs prepare students to enter the workforce with the academic and technical skills needed to compete successfully in the job market.


The Glendale Union High School District Online Learning Academy is accredited by AdvancED and offers excellent options for students to choose from in an environment that fits their needs. Whether a student wants to attend full time or work from home, the GUHSD Online Learning Academy is an outstanding and flexible program tailored for student success.

Financial Excellence

Based on the 2018 Auditor General’s Classroom Spending report, GUHSD invests more of its funding in the classroom than state and peer group district averages. The same report found that GUHSD spends less on administration than other state and peer group district averages. Glendale Union High School District has been fiscally responsible with taxpayer funds and has earned prestigious awards from the Association of School Business Officials (ASBO) and the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) for the past 29 years.

Glendale Union High School District is honored and proud to be the leader in education in the Metro-Phoenix area. Our commitment to student achievement and our focus on continuous improvement have been recognized on a local and national level. We are known for having some of the highest-rated public high schools in Maricopa County. Our national accolades include being recognized as the Advanced Placement National District of the Year by the College Board, and our schools are consistently listed among America’s Top High Schools by U.S. News & World Report.

Our excellent schools are student focused, comprehensive and ever improving. During the 2018-2019 school year, our students earned an impressive $85 million in scholarships and 8,096 college credits through our Advanced Placement and dual-enrollment programs. On average, over 82 percent of our students enroll in postsecondary education.
