Slim & I kicks off our Outstanding month of Home grown Talent!!

For over 50 years country music legend Slim Dusty and his wife Joy McKean trail-blazed their way across Australia performing, writing and collecting songs of the bush and its people. They created a musical legacy that to this day continues to entertain and inspire, a catalogue of plain speaking yet profoundly insightful music documenting the rural Australian experience. Theirs is perhaps one of the greatest partnerships in Australian music history. SLIM & I is a feature documentary that tells the incredible story of that partnership and of the brilliant woman who lived beside, rather than behind, the legend. Australia’s own "Queen of Country Music", Joy McKean.

October brings forward an even more impressive collection of home grown movies that will have you cheering- "Aussie Aussie Aussie, Oi Oi Oi"!!

A retelling of the brilliant Icelandic film of the same name (a hit with Australian audiences in 2016 that also won the Un Certain Regard at Cannes 2015), this iteration sees the tale adapted to the remote terrain of Western Australia, where two estranged brothers, Colin (Sam Neill) and Les (Michael Caton), are at war.

Raising separate flocks of sheep descended from their family’s prized bloodline, the two men work side by side yet are worlds apart. When Les’s prize ram is diagnosed with a rare and lethal illness, authorities order a purge of every sheep in the valley. While Colin attempts to stealthily outwit the powers that be, Les opts for angry defiance. But can the warring brothers set aside their differences and have a chance to reunite their family, save their herd, and bring their community back together?

A film sure to strike true for many Australians, where hardship is balanced with our renowned larrikin sense of humour, this tale beautifully explores family, connected through land and community, and the relationships at the heart of those communities.

When a nursing home stands in the way of a 50-year courtship, four grumpy old Vietnam Vets unite to re-enact the great escape. They may have lost their memory and speed, but these renegades prove it’s never too late for new adventures, even if you have to break rules to break free. This riotous story of four heroic Vietnam veterans, famous for escaping from a POW camp find themselves sharing new prison Hogan Hills Retirement Home. Each of the men have unrealised dreams they want to achieve before it’s too late. So once again, they band together to devise a plan to escape the nursing home from hell. After so many years apart these mates teach each other that it’s never too late, no matter how old you are, to chase your dreams. A delightful comedy about love, friendship and determination, NEVER TOO LATE has an all-star cast including Academy Award Nominee Jacki Weaver and Academy Award Nominee James Cromwell, Shane Jacobson, Jack Thompson, Roy Billing and Dennis Waterman.

In Gregor Jordan's adaptation of the acclaimed novel by Tim Winton, the stunning landscape of Western Australia is the backdrop for an impassioned tale of love and grief. Stuck in a loveless relationship with legendary local fisherman Jim Buckridge (David Wenham), the despondent Georgie (Kelly Macdonald) becomes enamored with Lu (Garrett Hedlund), a young poacher who is encroaching on her tyrannical partner's territory. A reticent loner with a tragic past who gave up his life as a musician, Lu is wary of letting Georgie in. But their fervent attraction gets the better of them, and secrets are uncovered that will change their lives. When Jim finds out about the affair, Lu flees into the punishing terrain with no intention of returning, and Georgie sets off on a chase to bring her lover back.

"Wes Craven re-invented and revitalised the slasher-horror genre with this modern horror classic, which manages to be funny, clever and scary, as a fright-masked knife maniac stalks high-school students in middle-class suburbia.
