Situated in the heart of the Central Flyway, Cheyenne Ridge’s North Platte Outpost is quickly becoming recognized as one of the country’s most predictable waterfowl destinations.

Occupying three miles of Platte river bottom and over 5,000 acres of Cheyenne Ridge Outfitters-owned land, the Outpost invites you to enjoy some of the best waterfowl shooting you’ll ever experience. With both river frontage and flooded fields we are assured of having open water throughout the season, regardless of the weather. In addition large numbers of Canada geese use this as area as staging grounds before heading further south. Enjoy your passion from the comfort of our heated blinds. In the afternoons clients can enjoy some of the best pheasant and chukar hunting found in the Midwest. Our pheasant hunting experience was gained owning one of South Dakota’s premier pheasant operations, the Signature Lodge.

The majority of the hunting at the North Platte Outpost takes place out of permanent blinds on either the Platte River itself or on one of our many flooded fields right off of the river. All hunts are conducted by one of our professional guides accompanied by well-trained retrievers. In addition to the world-class waterfowling hunters can enjoy some great afternoon chukar hunting. Depending on the group size hunts will be either traditional block and drive hunting or for smaller groups we can hunt thick habitat surrounding the river with the flushing dogs. Regardless of the method this is a great addition to a successful waterfowl hunt.

The habitat surrounding the Platte River bottom is the ideal situation for waterfowl traveling down the Central flyway. With the combination of agricultural land bordering the river system and it’s tributaries, the fluctuations of water levels all most always assure the ducks and geese will have access to current food sources. In addition the Outpost is located adjacent to large cattle feeding operations which are a natural attraction for passing waterfowl.

Waterfowl seasons are set by the federal government and vary slightly from year to year but traditionally open in early November and continue through late January. Chukars can be hunted anytime the waterfowl season is open.

The accommodations, food and service at the North Platte Outpost are what set this operation apart from much of the competition. With room for up to 12 guests the Outpost is well known as the perfect place to entertain corporate clients or family members. Large spacious great rooms with large flat screen TV’s, fully stocked bars, comfortable beds with down comforters, and a massage room with a professionally trained masseuse all add to the comfort of the lodge. After a successful day afield return to a true culinary experience at the lodge: start with hors d’oeuvres like smoked pheasant dip followed by entrees such as roasted prime rib of beef with au jus, goat cheese and basil stuffed chicken breast, or apple wood smoked bacon wrapped duck breast.

Clients can arrive at the Scott’s Bluff regional airport which is just minutes from the lodge or fly into Denver which is located 3 ½ hours away and rent a car. Transportation from Scott’s Bluff is included in the hunting packages.
