Fergus Quill Trio 22nd CENTURY IMPROVISED MUSIC

INTRODUCING FQT'S DEBUT ‘ZOOP ZOOP'

Openly indebted to Derek Bailey, Pharoah Sanders & the classic piano trios of Oscar Peterson and Bill Evans, Fergus Quill Trio is equal parts swingin' and disorientating, a dichotomy that’s come to define a subsection of the burgeoning Leeds DIY jazz scene.

WATUSI

RELEASE DATE : 19.03.2021

  1. Watusi
  2. Watusi Michael Iwatsu Remix

The first single ‘Watusi’ is the trio’s interpretation of a Sun Ra Arkestra live staple. Featuring rapid tempo changes, free form improvisation and percussion en masse, it’s a perfect introduction to this ensemble whose frequent abstraction of the canon makes them a dynamic and intriguing band to watch live, and hear from the studio.

Also included in the single release is a remix by London-based producer Michael Iwatsu. He takes the raw elements and brings a distinct and metric freshness to the single, completely reimagining 'Watusi' as an industrial and thumping club-ready cut.

SUN DREAM

RELEASE DATE : 02.04.2021

  1. Sun Dream

Second single ‘Sun Dream’ is an original composition influenced by psychedelica and the spiritual jazz of the early 70s. Featuring the trio alongside Harmonium, viola, shruti box and a mass of auxiliary percussion ‘Sun Dream’ is a massive sonic landscape deserving of attention.
