CEO SOAK 5th Anniversary

About CEO Soak

August 12, 2021 | Goal: $150,000 | 50 Soakees

The 5th Annual CEO Soak is a "grown up" version of the Ice Bucket Challenge to engage corporate leadership to get soaked while raising funds and awareness for The ALS Association Western Pennsylvania Chapter.

Although this event is one of our most entertaining and sought after corporate opportunities, the financial success of the CEO Soak is what our ALS community relies on. To date, the event has raised more than $300,000 for ALS patient care, research and advocacy - providing critical support to ALS families.

2021 Participation Options

Option A: PPG Fountain Soak Participants will be given a time slot to come to PPG Place Fountain, film a short video to thank donors, and get soaked. To keep crowds small, Soakees will be limited to two guests and will be asked to leave promptly after being soaked. At most, four participants will be in the fountain at one time. A changing tent will be provided.

Option B: DIY Soak Participants who feel more comfortable getting soaked elsewhere may choose to get soaked at home, at an office, a local fire station, or anywhere where soaking can take place. Participants who choose this option are encouraged to take a video to share with the Chapter and supporters. Read Video Recording Tips here.

For both options, registered companies are provided with personalized web pages and tools to help their "soakee" and employees raise money. Contact Amie Hackimer at amie@cure4als.org or 412-593-4950 for assistance.

Help the CEO Soak reach it’s goal by asking your peers, neighbors, friends, and colleagues to get in the fountain with you.

Challenge someone who has gotten soaked over the last 5 years to join you again this year for the 5th Anniversary.

Corporate Fundraising

Corporate Gift - Some companies choose to support their soakee with a gift from the corporation instead of, or in addition to, fundraising.

Sponsorship - NEW! New to the CEO Soak this year are two levels of sponsorship opportunities to increase your company's presence at the event. Contact Amie Olson (amie@cure4als.org) for more information.

Matching Gift - Whether your company already has a matching gift program in place, or you pledge a match for this event, matching gifts are one of the most motivating fundraising tools for the CEO Soak.

Employee Fundraising

Encourage Registration – Employees can register on your company’s team to create their own fundraising page. They will receive access to fundraising emails, the ability to start a Facebook fundraiser linked to the event, and additional communications to support their efforts.

Challenges & Competitions - Competition is key in peer-to-peer fundraising. Setting up challenges between departments, floors, or partners will increase fundraising dollars. Whether the competition is to see who get's soaked, who raises the most money, or who wins a prize, a challenge is always a great motivator.

Host a Virtual Kickoff - Host a kickoff event at your office during a staff meeting or over lunch. Chapter staff will come speak about ALS, the event, your impact, and how to fundraise. Hang CEO Soak flyers around the office to promote participation.

Soakee Fundraising

Send emails – Our top teams do most of their fundraising through just a few group emails. Use the email templates provided to reach out to your personal and professional networks. Be sure to include your customized URL so donors are sent directly to your page. It often takes three asks for a contact to give, so be sure to follow up!

Facebook Fundraisers – Registered Soakees or “Soakers” can start a Facebook fundraiser linked directly to their fundraising page. This is a great supplemental fundraising strategy. Note: Our Chapter does not receive donor information from Facebook, so be sure to thank your donors!

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a fatal, progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord. People with ALS often lose their ability to walk, talk, use their arms, and eventually breathe. ALS is always fatal, typically within 2-5 years from diagnosis. There is no cure and only four drugs approved by the FDA that modestly extend survival and slow the progression of symptoms. For unknown reasons, veterans are twice as likely to be diagnosed with ALS.

The ALS Association works to discover treatments and a cure for ALS, and to serve, advocate for, and empower people affected by ALS to live their lives to the fullest. Individuals living with ALS and their loved ones come first in everything we do.

Each year, The ALS Association Western PA Chapter serves over 350 people living with ALS. Through the highest quality patient care services, international research programs, and fearless advocacy efforts, we are working to provide help and hope to people living with ALS and their families. The ALS Association provides a range of services such as equipment loans, home visits from social workers, transportation services, and multidisciplinary clinics.
