Inaugural NAIA Cheer & Dance National Championship Banquet, Prelims & Finals

Take note of the word "inaugural"...It's kind of a big deal! In the first season that competitive cheer & dance is recognized by the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) as a championship sport, our very own Stephens College Starlets snagged an at-large bid and was one of 12 teams to vie for the first-ever NAIA Dance National Championship.

Thursday - NAIA Banquet

After arriving in Oklahoma City, having senior captain Victoria Vitale represent Stephens College at an NAIA Champions of Character event at John Rex Charter Elementary, and a long afternoon of coaches meetings, the Starlets were ready for the first-class NAIA Banquet at the Vast Restaurant. Did I mention that it was on the 49th floor and overlooked downtown OKC? What a view!

Did I mention the great view from the venue?

During the banquet, several awards were handed out. Pictured left is senior Victoria Vitale receiving an individual "Champions of Character" award and pictured right is Victoria along with juniors Cerena Chaney and Kylie Thompson, who all received the prestigious NAIA-Daktronics Scholar-Athlete Award (upperclassmen with 3.5 GPA or above)
There was no way we could leave the festivities without a photo-op with the first-ever NAIA Dance National Championship trophy which was being displayed at Thursday evening's banquet.
And what do you do when you have to ride the elevator for 49 floors? Elevator selfies of course!
