Climate change Aitana marCos dÍaz

What is the clImate change?

Climate change refers to the change in average weather conditions for long periods of time.

Scientists reckon the climate change is the result of the increase of some gases which are produced by natural sources and human activities.

What Are the causeS that contribute to the gLobal warming?

Climate scientists feel sure that rising levels of carbon dioxide and other gases in the atmosphere have produced the increase of the greenhouse effect.

The greenhouse effect is the process by which heat is trapped by the greenhouse gases in the atmosphere.

Which gases contribute To the IncrEase of the greenhouse effect?

The gases that contribute to the greenhouse effect are water vapor, carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide and the fluorinated gases.

Water vapor. It controls Earth's temperature and it creates what scientists call a "positive feedback effect".

Carbon dioxide. Carbon dioxide is produced by natural and human sources.

The Earth's oceans, plants, animals and volcanoes are all natural sources of carbon dioxide emissions.

Human sources come from activities like burning of fossil fuels and deforestation.

Methane. This gas is produced during some agricultural and livestock activities.

Nitrous oxide. It's emitted during the burning of fossil fuels and some agricultural activities.

Fluorinated gases. This gases are used inside products such as refrigerators, air conditioners and aerosol cans.

How strongly do They impact global temperatures?

Climate scientists guess that rising levels of this greenhouse gases in the atmosphere have warmed the Earth and are causing wide impacts including increasing sea levels, melting ice, more extreme heat events and stronger storms and floods.

Melting ice and sea level increase. Hotter temperatures will warm the oceans and ice will melt, increasing sea level.

Ocean acidification. Carbon dioxide in contact with the sea creates carbonic acid, which limits the growth in the oceans.

Extreme weather conditions, like droughts or floods are the primary way that most people experience climate change and they will continue rising as the climate continues to warm.

Air pollution. This gases also produced the increase of the air pollution, which is more abundant in the big cities.

How can we stop global warming?

Change light bulbs. One of the best things you can do for the environment is change regulars incandescent light bulbs with compacts fluorescents light bulbs.

Carbon tax. It's a form of carbon pricing, which produces a negative impact in the climate system.

Use less your car. Reducing numbers of trips you make in your car will reduce your fuel cost and will be benificial for the environment.
