2019 Day of Service

Salem Academy is continuing its tradition of serving others in our community. However, this year’s Day of Service will be in partnership with Salem College. There will be a Academy & College service day kickoff in the morning before leaving campus for the various volunteering sites. Academy students will be volunteering with SECU Family House, Sunnyside Ministries, and Second Harvest Food Bank. At Second Harvest and Sunnyside, students will be sorting food items or assisting with clothes organization. While at SECU Family House, making snacks for residents and/or helping with household chores are some of the service activities students will be doing.
During the afternoon, Both the Academy and College students will gather for lunch to discuss volunteer experiences. After lunch, Academy students will work with the Salem College students in completing a volunteer project on campus.
Before participating in the service activities, students will need to submit a waiver form to the school, which can be found by clicking here. Please submit all forms to the attention of Felecia Penn, Director of Student Activities. All completed waivers must be turned into the school by Thursday, January 17. On the day of service, students will need arrive at Bryant Hall on Friday, January 18 by 8:00 am to check in with their faculty trip chaperone. The dismissal time for the day is scheduled to be at 3:00 pm.

Get ready to strike out under neon lights! Come and down down some pins as Salem Academy goes cosmic bowling. Neon lights and glow in the dark bowling will be a part of the evening's festivities. School transportation will leave at 10:00 pm.
*There are concessions available at the bowling alley. Please bring money if you would like to purchases.

On January 23, students will spend the day exploring college life at two North Carolina colleges by taking campus tours.
Lunch will be eaten off campus today. Students can bring their lunch or can make a brown bag lunch in the dining hall during breakfast at 8:00 am. Students will return on campus by 4:30 pm*
*Driver's Ed students will be on campus for their afternoon class.

2019 Women's ACC Basketball Tournament

The 2019 ACC Womens Basketball Tournament is happening the week of March 4, 2019. Salem Academy is looking to host a trip to go watch one of the tournament games either on March 8 (Friday evening) or March 9 (Saturday afternoon).
There will be a fee associated with the event, however the quantity of people who are interested could affect pricing.
In order to continue with this event, there would need to be at least 10 interested students who would like to attend.

Recognized as a classic of French cinema, this 1946 French romantic fantasy film was directed by French poet and filmmaker Jean Cocteau. Beauty and the Beast has had many film versions over the years, yet critics agree that the French version deserves recognition as one of the best films in world cinema. Beauty and the Beast is a version of the Cupid and Psyche myth. The discussion at the event will highlight classical, modern, and contemporary myth cycles.
The conversation will be led by Lauren Rogers, Dean of Students, Salem Academy, and John Oksanish, Associate Professor, Department of Classical Languages at Wake Forest University.

Hargrave Military Academy
Hargrave Military Academy is inviting Salem Academy students to their annual military ball. The military ball is Hargrave’s version of prom. Also, Hargrave is seeking students who are willing to participate in the promenade ceremony, which honors Hargrave’s senior officers.
It is a great opportunity to support another school and have fun at the same time! Also, if you just want to participate in the dance, you can! For more information about the ball, please click here.
