Sierra Leone is a country in Africa. The population of Sierra Leone is 6,018,888 (July 2016 est.)

Some ethnic groups are Temne 35%, Mende 31%, Limba 8%, Kono 5%, Kriole 2%,Mandingo 2%, Loko 2%, other 15% (includes refugees from Liberia's recent civil war, and small numbers of Europeans, Lebanese, Pakistanis, and Indians)

In Sierra Leone, there were child soldiers.(yes those are real guns) There was a civil war versus the Joseph Momoh government. war lasted 11 years, and children fought too.

The people of Sierra Leone spoke the languages english (official, regular use limited to literate minority), Mende (principal vernacular in the south), Temne (principal vernacular in the north), Krio (English-based Creole, spoken by the descendants of freed Jamaican slaves who were settled in the Freetown area, a lingua franca and a first language for 10% of the population but understood by 95%)

Life expentancy at birth is over 55 years old for males. For females, its 60 years

The climate of Sierra Leone is tropical; hot, humid; summer rainy season (May to December); winter dry season (December to April).Some natural resources are diamonds, titanium ore, bauxite, iron ore, gold, chromite. Sierra Leone has a coastal belt of mangrove swamps, wooded hill country, upland plateau, mountains in east.

In Sierra Leone, they wore clothes from Goodwill, but they can also wear fancier clothes from a local tailor.

The capital of Sierra Leone is Freetown. They gained their independence on April 27th, 1961 (from the UK). The type of government is presidential republic. The leader is President Ernest Bai KOROMA.

The type of currency they use is called Sierra Leonean leone. its a very weird name.

One major city is Freetown. The population is 470,000.The city's economy revolves largely around its harbor.Like the rest of Sierra Leone, football is the most popular sport in Freetown. The Sierra Leone national football team,known as the Leone Stars plays all their home games at Freetown's National Stadium.

Another major city is Makeniis. Its the largest city in the Northern Province of Sierra Leone. The city is home to the University of Makeni, the largest private university in Sierra Leone. Makeni is home to one of Sierra Leone's biggest and oldest football clubs called the Wusum Stars.

Sierra Leone waz colonized by British West Africa. Sierra Leone was colonized in 1787 by freed slaves arriving from England. They were sponsored and governed by the private Sierra Leone Company until 1808, when Britain made Sierra Leone a crown colony.

1961: Sierra Leone gained their independence

1954 - Sir Milton Margai, leader of the Sierra Leone People's Party, appointed chief minister.

1991 - Start of civil war. Former army corporal Foday Sankoh and his Revolutionary United Front (RUF) begin campaign against President Momoh, capturing towns on border with Liberia.

1997 - Peace deal unravels. President Kabbah deposed by army in May. Maj Johnny Paul Koroma, in prison awaiting the outcome of a treason trial, leads the military junta - the Armed Forces Revolutionary Council (AFRC). Koroma suspends the constitution, bans demonstrations and abolishes political parties.

1999 January - Rebels backing Revolutionary United Front leader Foday Sankoh seize parts of Freetown from Ecomog. After weeks of bitter fighting they are driven out, leaving behind 5,000 dead and a devastated city.
