Accessing Your Handshake Account Webster University | Career Planning & Development Center

Webster University's Career Planning & Development Center (CPDC) provides Webster students and alumni with Handshake, an online career management platform which enables you access to job and internship postings, professional connections, events, and a variety of other career resources. Many students and alumni already have existing Handshake accounts.

Current students

Most current students have a Handshake account that is automatically created the first time they register for classes at Webster University. You can log in to Handshake using your Connections username and password. If the system does not identify your Connections credentials, you can register for an account using your Webster email address.

To log in with your Connections username and password, go to webster.joinhandshake.com and click the blue Webster University button.

In the School Username field, enter your Connections username (Webster email without the @webster.edu). In the Password field, enter your Connections password.

The system will authenticate your information and log you in to your account.

Alumni who graduated within the last year

Your Handshake account was created automatically when you were a student using your Webster email address to identify you in the system. As long as you have access to your Webster University email account, you can sign in to your Handshake account using your Connections username and password (see above instructions for current students). However, as you will lose access to your Webster email address and Connections login, it is strongly recommended that you change your Handshake login credentials before this happens.

If you are still able to access to your Webster email address, please submit an email change request for your Handshake account to the Career Planning & Development Center at careercn@webster.edu. Please use the subject line "Email Change Request" and include the following information in the body of your email:

  • Your full name
  • Your student ID number
  • Your Webster email address
  • The personal email address you'd like to use as your Handshake username moving forward. Please double check that your personal email address is spelled correctly!

Once your email address change has been initiated, you'll be sent instructions for how to log in to Handshake using your personal email address.

Alumni who graduated more than a year ago

Graduated Spring 2018 or later

Webster University created Handshake accounts automatically for enrolled students beginning in Spring 2018, so it is possible that you already have a Handshake account.

You can check if you have an existing Handshake account by emailing careercn@webster.edu with the subject line "Alumni Handshake Account Inquiry." In the body of the email, please provide:

  • Your full name
  • Your Webster student ID or other information that will help us to identify you in our student records system (e.g., last 4 digits of your social security number).
  • Your Webster email address
  • The personal email address you'd like to use as your Handshake username moving forward. Please double check that your personal email address is spelled correctly!

Our staff will identify whether you have an existing Handshake account. If so, your email address will be changed through a manual process to the personal email address you provided, and you will be emailed instructions to access your account using your personal email address. If not, you will be notified via email and provided instructions for registering for a new account.

Graduated before Spring 2018

Alumni who graduated before Spring 2018 will not have had a Handshake account automatically created for them by Webster University but can register for a new account.

To register, go to webster.joinhandshake.com and click on the "No account? Sign up here" link in the top right corner of the screen.

You will be asked to enter your .edu email address. Ignore these instructions and enter your personal email address.

Make sure that Webster University is listed in the "School" drop-down box and click "Next."

Select a password and click the "Create account" button.

Fill out the "Tell us about yourself" form and click the "Next" button.

Once you've completed the form, you'll receive a confirmation email. Click the "Confirm Email" button in that email.

You'll be directed back to Handshake to set up your profile and answer questions about your career interests. Once you've completed the career interests page, click the "Launch" button.

You'll be granted access to a limited version of your Handshake account, and you'll receive an email explaining your pending registration status.

Career Planning & Development Center staff need to manually confirm and approve your account. Account requests will be reviewed during business hours. Once approved, you'll receive an email confirming your status. When you log in to Handshake in the future, you'll be able to access jobs, events, and other resources for Webster students and alumni.
