Tiger Tales Carmel elementary school newsletter

It’s that time of year to celebrate Carmel Elementary’s oldest tradition... the Canned Food Drive!

For the past couple years CE has shattered previous school food drive records! We’re hoping to do it again this year! Our goal is for every student and staff member to bring in at least 10 items. This would get us close to 6,000 items. Last year we donated 8,663 items, which totaled over 6,400 pounds.

More than numbers, however, we care a lot about the quality of our donations. We’d love to see family-friendly options from all food groups lining the hallways. Some of the best suggestions include:

  • Meals in a can or box such as chili, stew, or soup
  • Canned meats like chicken, beef, or tun
  • Peanut butter and jelly (plastic containers)
  • Easy Mac
  • Chips and Salsa (plastic)
  • Pancake mix and syrup
  • Cereals and granola bars
  • Cracker boxes
  • Instant rice or potatoes
  • Snack sized foods like applesauce, peaches, or pudding

*Please send foods in original packages! Do not take items out of boxes in order for our numbers to be higher (popcorn or granola bars, for example)!

THANK YOU in advance for your kind support and food donations! The food will be donated to the Hamilton County Harvest Food Bank, feel free to like them on Facebook!

If you have any questions you may contact Kristen Nilo at knilo@ccs.k12.in.us.

CES Green Team Needs Your Recyclables

Our Green Team Club members are collecting soda cans to be recycled to earn money for our school. Bring your cans to the bins located at the front entrance or in the teacher’s lounge.

We are also collecting Christmas lights that don’t work anymore. There is a bin outside of the library where families can put them. They'll be taken to a recycling location so they don’t go into the landfill.

Thanksgiving Parade

Our 3rd and 4th graders put on a great first ever Thanksgiving Parade at Carmel Elementary...it was SO CUTE! We hope everyone had a wonderful holiday.

Updates to PTO By-Laws

Formal Proposal of Amendment: November 2, 2018

We, the 2018-2019 PTO Executive Board, propose to eliminate the executive board position titled “Relationship Development Representative”, and therefore any associated Relationship Development Committee, as detailed in Section 8 (A-E) of the By Laws.

Many of the duties currently listed under this position, including tracking volunteer participation, are either no longer relevant to our current PTO board, or are being performed by a committee within the current PTO. For example, new family events are hosted by the members of the New Comers Committee.

(Due Notice will be given during our General PTO meeting: November 29, 2018 at 8:15am. Further notice will be given by publishing the Formal Proposal of Amendment within the following edition of Tiger Tales. The Amendment will be put to a vote during our next General PTO meeting on February 7, 2019 at 7pm.)
