Watching The Divine Larissa Boruk

The Spatial Experience

The setting of the theatre was quite interesting. When you walk in its pretty small and it builds up from the ground seating to the raised seating. What I felt when I first walked in was a sense of mystery because I didn't really know what the play was about and the first thing I saw was the sets which I thought was very interesting. I sat like five rows back which impacted how I saw the play because it felt almost like I was on stage with them and the voices of each person was so clear so I really got to hear and see up close the actors' expressions. I felt when the lights dimmed and the audience quieted that there was a sense of anticipation and curiosity because you didn't know what was going to happen and where the actors were going to come out of. The size of the auditorium allowed for people to truly be able to see up close the actors and the sets as well as really watch the play. The role of place in the good life is that a place can be a part of your good life like a place can make you feel happy and fulfilled. This photo was taken by me.

The Social Experience

Attending the play with stranger allows for you to see that there are people that come together under one roof to see something that is quite interesting. I saw this play with one of my friends that I met here at UF. We both weren't really enthusiastic about going so we decided to go together. I think going with friends allow you to talk about the play and have fun while doing an assignment for a class. What I did to get ready for the play was change from normal clothes into something nicer since at the theatre you're supposed to wear something nice. Also, I skimmed over the plot of the play to make sure I wasn't completely in the dark when walking into the theatre. Going with friends enhances your experience because you can enjoy things as a group and talk about the play to fully understand it. I think that sharing experiences play a role in the good life because it allows for you to enhance the experience and make lasting memories that are part of your good life. This photo was taken by my friend of me in front of the theatre.

The Cultural and Intellectual Experience

The performance helped me develop a new way of seeing our own culture because it allowed me to see how it was like back in the past like how children worked and how the theatre was seen as something only for the rich as well as the big role religion had on what people did. I think that the time and place was important since it was Quebec City in past times because it shows a time where we weren't there to see with our own eyes. I think the central issue of this play is doing what is right for you and your family versus what you actually want to do. I didn't know much about the subject matter beforehand. All I knew was that it was taken place in the past and one of the locations was a seminary. I think that my views on the subject matter changed in a way that I didn't expected. It changed by it showed how hard that decision can really be for someone in Talbot and Michaud's shoes. I can't say that it has a relationship with my life a lot but I can say that its very relatable because I think at some point in everyone's life there is that major decision that can change your life. The Emotional Experience

The play provides us with an opportunity for Katharsis by it shows that its okay to come clean and say what you are really feeling. I think Michaud's inner conflict shows us what Katharsis really is because he had this love for the theatre that was unacceptable in the churches eyes yet he wrote in his journal a play about Talbot. He showed that coming clean about himself wanting to write plays and not be a seminarian. I think this shows us that coming clean can have a positive outcome on your life and that its a good thing to do sometimes. The opportunity is given to us by this play to come clean to someone that we know or even don't know. It shows that conflicts about life happen to a lot of people and it good to actually do what you think is best for you even though it might now be good for other people. I think it also show us what being human really is because it shows that everyone makes mistakes even a brother in the church and its just a part of humanity. It shows us what it means to be human in a way that is different than present society depicts it to be. Which I think gives us a new understanding of what it means to be human.
