The disadvantage of mechanical wristwatch is that there can be several seconds error per day.

Electric watches first appeared in 1967 and soon replaced mechanic watches.
Smartwatches was invented first by Pebble in 2012.
The most recent released smart watch was apple watch series 2 released in 2016.

Combination of apple watch and original watch might appear in the future.
