duke splashes through miami, 20-12

TE Daniel Helm hauled in the go-ahead touchdown late in the third period and the Duke defense blanked Miami in the second half as the Blue Devils defeated the Hurricanes, 20-12, at Hard Rock Stadium. The win marked Duke's first win in Miami since 1976.

deon jackson's 75-yard touchdown run on the opening play from scrimmage pushed duke in front, 7-0. the run matched the 17th-longest rushing play in duke history.
Participants and spectators were forced to endure heavy rainfall in the first half.

Duke took advantage of the night's first turnover -- a fumble caused by DT Derrick Tangelo and recovered by LB Ben Humphreys -- when K Collin Wareham's 27-yard field goal split the uprights to pull Duke to within 12-10 with 9:32 remaining in the third quarter.
Following the Wareham field goal, Miami marched into Blue Devil territory and settled for a field goal attempt, which was blocked by LB Joe Giles-Harris to keep Duke trailing by two points.
QB Quentin Harris tossed a two-yard touchdown strike to TE Daniel Helm for the go-ahead points with 18 seconds left in the third period.

At the 9:14 mark of the fourth, K Collin Wareham booted a 33-yard field goal to push Duke in front, 20-12.
DE Victor Dimukeje recorded one sack on the night while helping Duke hold Miami scoreless in the second half.
