11 before 11 at Ysgol Maes Y Mynydd

At Ysgol Maes Y Mynydd we recognise the profound impact experiences can have on children's learning. Our curriculum is rich in authentic experiences and we further this through our '11 before 11' promise.

Following consultation with children, parents, staff and wider stakeholders, we have developed eleven seminal experiences all children will have before leaving us.

1) Visit our capital city: children will have the opportunity to visit Cardiff as part of a residential trip in Year 6.

2) Make a difference in our community: from litter picking around Rhos to entertaining the elderly in care homes, our children will positively contribute to their community.

3) Camp out under the stars: as part of their topic work in upper key stage two, children will get the chance to camp out under canvas in our Forest School.

4) Visit the seaside: our youngest children will experience sand between their toes and a sea breeze on their face.

5) Care for others: from caring for our resident chickens to forming 'buddies' with younger children, our children will learn to care.
6) Enjoy the theatre: as well as immersing in Welsh culture, our children will experience the awe and wonder of a live performance.
7) Residential adventures- children will have multiple opportunities to take part in outdoor adventurous activities with trained instructors as part of residential trips.
8) Seed to supper: in our school farm, children will grow their own produce and then use it to cook. They will also develop their entrepreneurial skills by selling their produce to our school community from our farm shop.
9) Reach a summit: as part of their learning about local landscapes in lower key stage two, children will scale a local mountain.

10) Experience places of culture: during their time at Maes Y Mynydd, children will visit art galleries, museums and places of worship; they will watch and perform in the Eistedfodd.

11) Perform in public: children will have opportunity to showcase their talents from across the curriculum to real audiences. From performing gymnastic and dance routines to exhibiting their art work, the children will share their amazing learning.
