Notes From The Den MVHS Principal's letter - Sept 2020

MVHS Students & Parents,

Thank you all for a great start to the school year. I know it has not been easy, but I applaud our community’s efforts of making the most of a difficult situation! Student attendance to our virtual classes has been strong, and it has been rejuvenating to witness our students and teachers interacting, albeit virtually.

Our top two areas that we want to ensure our families understand are Canvas and Attendance. In this letter you will find additional and pertinent information for both topics.

I know families are inundated with emails and information. Our goal is to continue to provide vital communication, and to try to not overwhelm you with “extra stuff” that can be shared at a later time.

Hoping this note finds each of you healthy and well. Please do not hesitate to reach out if you have questions or concerns…we are here to help!

With Cougar Pride, Michael Hicks, Principal

Last Wednesday we asked all students to complete the MV Canvas-Ready Course, however, as of today, only 25% of our students have complete this task. Many of the questions our staff are fielding are topics covered in this course. Canvas is a pivotal platform that students will use this year and beyond. Please help ensure that your student has completed this course by 9/30. Step 1: Watch Canvas Video HERE Step 2: Complete Student Canvas Course Here Step 3: Review Top 10 List Here

Parents & Students - please note that daily student attendance is being taken during CDL. Every Day. Every Class Period. Even during the periods of "student directed" work time and for all periods on Wednesdays, our teachers are tracking student virtual activity through Canvas assignments, daily quizzes, form questions, email communication, etc. Students are expected to connect virtually in some way, every day and in every class.

If there is a day where your student WILL NOT be present virtually, we ask that parents call our attendance line 541-355-4415 to report the absence, just as they would if school was happening in person. Automated attendance calls are going out daily for students who missed one or more periods the day before. Our standard Attendance Policies for excuse reasons and excuse time frames (listed on page 4 of our student handbook) remain the same.
