On April 12 I officially became Hootsuite Certified (insert a sigh of relief here)! Getting this certification for COMM 333 was not easy and was very time consuming but is going to be so worth it in the long run and in the very near future. Here's a little bit about my experience...
The Hootsuite Certification program was full of information. I learned all about how to schedule posts which is important when working with social media for a company that posts often. I also learned about bulk uploading, which helps when scheduling a large number of posts at once. Hootsuite also provides streams based on hashtag and location. This is so good for businesses trying to reach a local target audience. In addition, Hootsuite allows its users to run contests and sweepstakes and track audience engagement.
I thought it was really interesting to learn about using streams on Hootsuite. You can monitor your social networks as if you were on the social media site itself. This allows users to engage with social media audiences on multiple platforms and accounts without having to log in and out of each one. I also think its great that Hootsuite is not only there to be used for businesses. It is so well organized that I think anybody who is fairly active on social media could benefit from using it.
I learned more through this program than I thought possible. I think for me it will be extremely beneficial to look at some geo-targed messages and geo-searching because I am trying to reach a local audience. For this it will be important to find the right topics and points of interest in certain areas. This certification will surely set me apart from my competitors. It isn't just something to fill space on a resume. It actually looks good on a resume. This wasn't an easy certification to get and I'm sure employers realize that and realize that this program gave me a ton of tips and tricks to pull out from. I would definitely recommend this program to anyone who thinks they may end up in a field that uses social media on a regular basis.
All in all, I'm so glad to have this certification and I can't wait to begin applying some of the things I learned.
