AI for Advanced Cardiac MRI Analysis for Better Patient Care

HDR UK Applied Analytics Seminar led by Steffen Petersen

As part of the HDR UK Applied Analytics scientific theme this seminar on AI for Advanced Cardiac MRI Analysis for Better Patient Care led by Professor Steffen E Petersen will take place on Wednesday 1st December 2021 from 16:00 - 17:00 UK time.

This seminar will be recorded.

Administering contrast agents is a key component for diagnosing ischaemic heart disease with cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR). However, there are patients who cannot be safely given gadolinium contrast agent. Eliminating the need for contrast will benefit this set of patients. In addition, a typical contrast CMR scan takes approximately 35-45 minutes and without contrast it would take approximately half the time. Eliminating the need for contrast will therefore save both time and cost of cardiovascular healthcare and improve the patient experience (no needle, less time in CMR scanner). In this presentation, we will discuss the challenges associated with using machine learning (ML) to predict the location and extent of scar in ischaemic heart disease without having to administer contrast to patients.
