Background

On Septmber 11, 2001, four airplanes were hijaked in a coordinated attack on the United States by Al-Qaeda, a terrorist organization based in Afghanistan. Two planes were crashed into the two World Train Center buildings, one crashed into the Pentagon, and one was heading to Washington D.C., but was taken down in a field in Pennsylvania.

2,996 people were killed and over 6,000 people were injured.

9/11 caused $3 billion in damage. Two other buildings collapsed and four were severely damaged. Part of the pentagon collapsed.

9/11 was the worst terrorist attack in world history and the deadliest attack on U.S. soil since Pearl Harbor in 1941.

The United States invaded Afghanistan, who harbored Al-Qaeda, beginning the War in Afghanistan.

The War in Afghanistan lasted 13 years, with another 2,000 American deaths
