Three Photographs/Pieces:

Composition

I chose this 3D photo from my treatment because I really like how the helicopter fills the entire image making it the main focus. The composition point "make every inch count" really goes with this picture because although it has some passive areas, the helicopter fills the picture and it's also in black and white, besides the red and blue. I also think that the lines of the background make the viewer assume that it's on a ship because the lines outline a deck and doors that lead into the ship.

Describe

This picture is composed of a helicopter on a battleship and it has a large text that outlines the main point. This piece was to explain the main points of my treatment, that's why I have a huge text in front, the title of my story. I tried to have two separate, solid, colors because it is a 3D piece. The background to be a solid white and the helicopter to be a dark color so it would really stand out.

Analyze

There are lots of lines, like the ones on the floor (white stripes). The colors really bring out the shape of the helicopter. Because the black helicopter is in front of a white background, it really portrays the shapes and details. No one is really visible in the background and you can see the stairs and deck that enter the ship. There are numbers on the helicopter which makes it seem military based, as well as a name on the front.

Interpret

I am trying to convey the tone and mood of the treatment. The mood would be dreary and dark and also serious. The tone would be that it's in a apocalyptic kind of setting and it's dangerous. Because my treatment takes place in a apocalypse, I wanted to send a message that would make the viewer feel a certain way, which is a dreary and serious mood. The symbol at the very edge of the picture also helps convey my message since it's a toxic symbol.

Evaluate

I feel like this artwork is effective for conveying the main idea/point. The text really brings out the picture as well as the colors. I think something I would change is to make the background a more solid white so that the helicopter would really stand out. The ground is grayish, not white. Also, I would change the way the helicopter was taken (the angle). I think maybe if the shot composed the entire helicopter, it would have made it more interesting than just showing half of it.

Composition

I chose this piece because it's one of my most colorful and artistic images. One composition point that really stands out is the layered look because the colors fade into one another creating a layer of color. Leading lines is also a major point that really makes the image because the mountains are forming into her shoulder which makes it look like she's apart of the mountain. The way she is posed is also very interesting like she's looking up at the sky.

Describe

This piece portrays a girl staring off into the sky with a forest as the background and a mountain that's connected to her. There's also a flower that's bloomed in her head. The images that aren't apart of her describe who she is as a person. Different images to show the different aspects of her character. The colors are very light, they're not harsh and solid colors.

Analyze

The lines in this piece are very important because it helps convey her connected to the mountain. The lines shape the mountains and it looks as if they're pointing up at her. The shapes make the picture very interesting by portraying her as apart of nature. The shape of the flower makes her head more visually pleasing than if it just was her face. The texture is very smooth and it leads into each layer.

Interpret

In this piece, I was trying to show that nature was growing into her. That she really loves the outdoors and throughout her life, she became more absorbed in it. The images on the sides are also to depict who she is as a person. The image of the girl reading and taking a picture are to convey her love for photography and that reading is one of her hobbies. The paint brushes on the very bottom are to show that she is an artist and loves to draw and paint.

Evaluate

I feel like this piece was mostly effective for conveying who she is as a person. Something I would have changed would be maybe adding more about her personality. Nature really sticks out and she really loves art as well. So maybe adding more images of artwork and drawings would have really made the picture more clear in a sense of describing her. Rather than that, I think that this is one of my best pieces that I've done in photoshop overall and I would do it again.

Composition

I chose this image because this is one of my latest works. Cubism was very hard to create and I learned a lot from it. One of the main composition points is being offish. The two girls are distorted so you can't really see a clear picture of them. There's also nothing that is symmetrical and parallel to one another. Everything is centered in a way that creates cubism, which makes this a offish image.

Describe

The piece is mainly composed of different views of the body and the way they're put back together. This is a cubism piece and has many squares "cubes" that create the picture as a whole. The upper body is more distorted than the rest of it and the faces are missing. The lockers set the background as well as the yellow floor. The many images were taken at different angles which makes the picture look confusing.

Analyze

The shapes really bring out the picture as a whole. Cubism creates a very interesting point of view when you look at it because it's not centered correctly. The images taken at different points of the body makes the piece really come together. The colors are pretty basic - which would be something I would change. The piece is straightforward using cubes.

Interpret

Overall, my main goal was to create cubism and make a simple picture into cubes. Because the piece is in cubes, it makes the interpretation for the viewer clear. I left out the faces and distorted the bodies to make it more focus on the way they are facing each other and shaped. There isn't much to interpret about this piece except the shapes and the way it's used to create cubism.

Evaluate

I overall like this picture mainly because the interpretation is pretty clear, cubism. Something I would change though is to add the faces and also make them distorted. I'd also get rid of the floor in the middle of the picture, it makes it look off because the floor is on the bottom, not the middle. I'd also like to change the background because it's pretty basic which makes the piece boring. Cubism was a challenge but made me look at things in a different perspective.

Peers Photographs

Describe

There's a girl standing in front of a large mirror and she's holding something. The mirror is divided with beams. Through the window you can clearly see a school with a parking lot and two flags. The land is mostly flat and is big in space. The sky is a light blue and the school is red. The image looks faded and old. You can also see a camera in the far right corner and a bird flying above it in the distance.

Analyze

The use of lines is seen in this picture as shown with the windows. The windows are in the shapes of rectangles. The school is also using lines because the bricks are outlined by white. The girl is shadowed by the light and is outlined in front of the windows. Because the girl is in the middle of the picture, I would say this is symmetrical. Also, the windows are a good background because they make the picture more interesting than if it was just the school and parking lot.

Interpret

I think the mood being portrayed is dark and mysterious. The girl really sets the mood because she's outline by the shadows. The flags also make it seem like it's meant for something, like a symbol meant to represent something important. The dead trees also make the mood dark. I think the artist decided to take a picture like this to give off a certain message. Like, the flags, the dead trees, the girl, it seems like she's in a dreary place and it's consuming her.

Evaluate

I think this picture communicates the message being portrayed. The dark figured girl really sets the picture and the mood, because without her, it would be boring. It makes you wonder why she's standing there and I think someone could relate to this. Like if they're in a dark place or are struggling, the picture could represent something that they're dealing with.

Describe

This photo is of a girl holding a lock in front of her eye. She's on a court and there is a net behind her. Its very sunny outside and there's a shadow casted across her face and shoulders. Also the lock casts a shadow across her cheek right below her eye. Her sweater is very dark and it brings the girl out because the other colors are lighter. There are clouds in the sky and a school behind her.

Analyze

The "think inside the box" composition point relates to this picture mainly because she is holding a locket and within that is her eye. The colors are solid and there is layering involved but it doesn't connect the colors with one another, like light blue and darker blue. There is also the use of lines involved like the net behind her as well as shapes like the shape of the lock.

Interpret

I think the meaning behind this picture is to show "think inside the box" because the lock serves as another shape. You have the background and girl (portrait) and then you have her holding the lock to focus on her eye. It's an interesting way of showing something off by framing it within something else.

Evaluate

I think that this conveys the message of the meaning behind the picture which is "think inside the box" The picture clearly shows her holding a lock that portrays a frame around her eye. I think that this is a good picture but not perfect. Her face looks "expressionless" and I think it makes the picture look plain or boring. She could also pose in a different way instead of just holding her arms up. Also the background isn't the most intriguing, she could have taken it on a white background to really bring out her eye and the lock. Overall, I like the picture and it conveys a clear message.
