Nate Downey, Joe Previdi and Laura Darcey were named the UAA Athletes of the Week after capturing respective All-American honors at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships.


Five UChicago student-athletes traveled to the 2018 NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships and brought back five All-American trophies -- led by two from sophomore Laura Darcey.

Sophomore Joe Previdi finished runner-up in the men's 800 in a thrilling race that went down to the wire to capture his first All-American award.
Sophomore Laura Darcey placed sixth in the Pentathlon on Day 1 to earn All-American honors and then followed it with a fifth-place finish in the high jump.
Junior Nicole VacaGuzman blasted past her seed (12) to take eighth place in the women's 400 and earn All-American honors.
Senior Nate Downey capped his four-year career with a sixth-place finish in the pole vault to earn All-American honors.
Sophomore Robin Peter (far left) also competed in the Indoor Championships, taking 16th in her prelim race in the 60-meter hurdles.

The University of Chicago softball team seeks its third-straight NCAA Division III Tournament appearance in 2018 after qualifying for the national field in both 2016 and 2017.


The perennial NCAA Tournament qualifying Maroons have their sights set on another strong season with a solid returning cast from the 2017 squad that finished 26-14 and reached its second-straight NCAA Regional.

Junior Maeve Garvey is back for the Maroons after earning NFCA First-Team All-Region honors in 2017 when she hit .405 with 26 RBI and two home runs.
"Our expectations are always high," Head Coach Ruth Kmak, who is approaching the 400-win mark this season, said. "While we lost a couple of major contributors to graduation, we return our pitching staff and defensive core and our offensive lineup will also remain largely intact… We'll look for some of the returners to take on more significant roles and for our first-years to step up to compete immediately. "If each team member does her part, we will be a very competitive whole."
Senior Molly Moran returns after earning second-team all-UAA honors with a 1.90 ERA, 11-7 record and 97 strikeouts.
Sophomore Megan Stoppelman is also a top option back in the circle after earning second-team all-UAA honors during her rookie campaign when she went 12-5 with a 2.06 ERA with 69 Ks.


Sophomore Laura Gutierrez and the #10 UChicago women's tennis team head into Spring Break with a 9-2 record.


After taking fourth at the ITA Indoor National Team Championships, the #10 Maroon women's team heads to California over Spring Break to take on some tough competition in the heart of spring season.

First-year Claire Handa holds a 16-2 record in singles, primarily at the No. 2 slot.
First-year Catherine Xu is 10-2 in singles play so far in 2017-18.
Second-year Marjorie Antohi has also been one of the Maroons' top players, holding a 10-5 mark in singles, primarily at No. 1 in dual play.
Junior Charlie Pei is off to a hot start this season, currently 9-2 in singles play.


The #6 Maroons have lost just one dual match so far in 2017-18, as UChicago took third place at the ITA Indoor Team Championships earlier this month. UChicago will take on some serious national contenders with a three-match stretch in Claremont, Calif., March 19-23.

First-year Alejandro Rodriguez holds a solid 11-6 record in singles play for the Maroons.
Senior Luke Tsai has been on a tear this season, as he's won 16-straight matches and holds an 18-2 mark in singles.
First-year Jeremy Yuan has also had a strong year thus far, winning 18 singles matches with just five losses.


UChicago takes a 2-3 record into a 10-game road stretch March 17-31, including eight games in southern Indiana and Texas.


After winning their first two games of the year in early March by a 31-4 margin, the Maroons head to Southern Indiana and Texas with eight games on the road, followed by a twin bill at Illinois College March 31.

Junior Ian Bohn currently leads the Maroons with a .389 batting average with seven hits, seven RBI and a home run in 18 at-bats in 2018.
Junior Connor Hickey is batting .375 with six hits, a double and five RBI in 24 at-bats.
Joe Liberman is 1-0 on the mound with a 3.38 ERA in eight innings pitched to go along with 14 Ks.

UChicago's teams had a total of 17 swimmers qualify to represent the Maroons at the 2018 NCAA Division III Swimming & Diving Championships held March 21-24 in Indianapolis, Ind.

  • Sophomore Reona Yamaguchi is the fourth seed in the men's 100-yard breaststroke (54.98).
  • First-year Gillian Gagnard is the fifth seed in the women's 200-yard backstroke (2:00.52).
  • First-year Margaret Wolfson is the sixth seed in the women's 200-yard breaststroke (2:17.99).
  • Sophomore Lance Culjat is the ninth seed in the men's 200-yard breaststroke (2:01.04).
Reona Yamaguchi is the fourth seed in the men's 100-yard breaststroke (54.98).
First-year Gillian Gagnard is the fifth seed in the women's 200-yard backstroke (2:00.52).


Sophomore Mia Farrell, Head Coach Carissa Sain Knoche and junior Olariche Obi were honored on the D3Hoops.com All-Region team.


After the Maroons' record-breaking season that saw them finish 24-3 overall and win 22-straight games en route to an appearance in the NCAA Division III Second Round, UChicago was represented well on the D3Hoops All-Central Region team, highlight by Head Coach Carissa Sain Knoche's second-straight Central Region Coach of the Year honor.
