Fidel Castro came to power in 1959 and banned car imports. The Cuban people became creative keeping the pre-1959 cars they owned up and running.

President Barack Obama made restoring U.S. relations with Cuba a centerpiece of his second-term foreign policy, raising the prospect of greater economic exchanges between the countries, including increased tourism and fewer restrictions on purchases of Cuban products.
