The Greenacres staff and Greenacres Artists Guild are teaming with nationally-recognized children's book makers, the Mazza Museum at The University of Findlay, and Kent State University to provide professional development opportunities for K-12 classroom teachers and visual arts educators.

This two-day event will deepen educators' knowledge and understanding of the arts, and help them build and strengthen children's artistic and visual literacy skills.

Ashland graduate credits available.

Greenacres is dedicated to bringing classroom lessons to life through hands-on educational programs.

Learn techniques that will help you:

  • grow a deeper, more profound knowledge of writing and the arts
  • energize student writing and breathe new energy into the writing workshop
  • develop decoding skills of visual images
  • cultivate strategies for guiding children to create their own illustrations and storylines

Michael J. Rosen

Writer. Illustrator. Editor. Ceramic Artist. Over the span of his career, Michael J. Rosen has been credited with creating over 130 picture books, middle-grade and young adult novels, collections and anthologies, cookbooks and sideline items such as boxed greeting cards. His philanthropic efforts have sought an end to childhood hunger and offered support to animal welfare agencies. Among reader favorites is Elijah's Angel: A Story for Chanukah and Christmas which received a 1993 National Jewish Book Award for best children's picture book. Barbara McClintock

Award-winning children’s book author and illustrator Barbara McClintock got her start in 1977 with the publication of Potbellied Possums. She’s added over 40 books to her repertoire since that time and is well-known for her classic illustrative style. In addition to providing artwork for folktales such as Cinderella, The Gingerbread Man and Goldilocks and the Three Bears, she is the creator of Emma and Julia Love Ballet and the Adele & Simon picture book series.

Matt Phelan

Matt Phelan began his work as an illustrator over twelve years ago with the publication of The Seven Wonders of Sassafras Springs written by Betty G. Birney. He has lent his artistic talents to more than 25 books including picture books, middle-grade novels, a young writer's handbook and two anthologies. He is also the creator of four widely-acclaimed graphic novels which have been nominated for several creative achievement awards. His first graphic novel, The Storm in the Barn, was the recipient of the 2010 Scott O'Dell Award for Historical Fiction.
