In the sixties rock music dominated the popular music charts (Rock Music Timeline 1). By 1964 American artists are sharing the top of the charts with U.K. bands led by the Beatles and The Rolling Stones (Rock Music Timeline 1). In the U.S. garage bands emerge, inspired by the British Invasion sound (Rock Music TImeline 1).

Style In The 1960's
The early sixties were more reminiscent of the 1950s- conservative and restrained, certainly more classic in style and design(Paul Phipps 1). The late 1960s were the exact opposite(Paul Phipps 2). They wore bright swirling colors(Paul Phipps 2). Tie-dye shirts, long hair, and beards were common(Paul Phipps 2).
Dance In the 1960s
The Twist was a rock and roll dance popular in the early 1960s (The Sixties 2). It was the first major international rock and roll dance style(The Sixties 2). The Mashed Potato is a dance move which was a popular dance craze of 1962(The Sixties 7). The dance move vaguely resembles The Twist (The Sixties 7).
Cars In the 1960s
Detroit stated "1964 models were designed with serious consideration for the needs and tastes of American women (Retrowaste 2). 1965 was called the "the year of the stylist" (Retrowaste 3).1966 models brought the first front-wheel drive car since 1937 (Retrowaste 4).
Movies In the 1960s
1963 was the worst year for US film production in fifty year, there was only 121 films released (Filmsite 2). The largest number of foreign films released in the US was in 1964 (Filmsite 2). With movie audiences declining due to dominance of television, major American film companies began to diversify with other forms of entertainment (Filmsite 3).
TV In the 1960s
In the early 1960s there was only 3 channels ABC, CBS, and NBC(60s Site 1). On the top of TV's there was an Aerial Antenna (60s Site 2). The Aerial Antenna was also known as Rabbit Ears(60s Site 2). Most of the shows where in black and white until the mid of the 60s when color TV came out(Color Television 1).
Technology In the 1960s
In 1961 the very first typewriter was invented(TimeToast 1).The first typewriter was too heavy it weighed 15-25 pounds (Encyclopedia 1). Later in 1967 GPS was invented (TimeToast 7). Following that two years later in 1969 the very first ATM came out and the first supercomputer (TimeToast Paragraph 9). The first cash dispensing machine was invented by Luther George(Encyclopedia 2).

On February 9, 1964 The Beatles made their first debut on The Ed Sullivan Show (History 1).Harper Lee's 1961 book To Kill A Mockingbird is a bestseller(History 7). In 1969 Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin were the first men to arrive on the moon(History 3).
Art In the 1960s
In the 1960s there were different types of art like Pop art, Psychedelic, and Conceptual art. Psychedelic art is any type of art or visual display (Encyclopedia 1). Conceptual art in which the idea presented by the artist is considered more important than the finished product(Encylopedia 1). Pop art is based on modern popular culture and the mass media (Encyclopedia 2).
