CSCSHC Summer Enrichment Programs 2021

The school district is proud to announce a full slate of exciting learning opportunities through our 2021 Summer Enrichment Camps. The Summer Enrichment Program offers camps covering a multitude of subjects for students in grades K-8 during the 2021-22 school year.

At this time, we plan to hold all Summer Enrichment camps in-person. Please note that directives from the Indiana State Department of Health or Hancock County Health Department could require our camps to be held virtually.

Dates and times for our camps are included in each camp's description and on the registration form linked above. All camps are held at New Palestine Intermediate School except Cooking Camp. Cooking Camp will be held at New Palestine High School. NOTE: You must submit payment through the SchoolPay form (included in the registration form) before you click submit on your registration form.

Camp Brochure: Below you will find a list and brief description of all CSCSHC Summer Enrichment Camps. Grades listed next to the camp are the grades students will be in for 2021-22. In order to guarantee your child is enrolled in the camp of their choosing, please complete registration before May 21, 2021. The cost of all camps (excluding Camp Invention) is $120. Please see our camp offerings below, which are listed in chronological order.

Camp Invention – June 7-11, 9:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. K through 6th-graders can attend as campers. 7th-9th-graders can attend as Counselors In Training. Camp Invention is a nationwide STEM camp. STEM is a curriculum based in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. The provided curriculum is rich with hands-on science experimentation and engineering opportunities. The backward design and understanding of prototypes is key in the Camp Invention experience. To register for Camp Invention, you must fill out the registration form here. NOTE: This form is different from the registration form for the other camps. If you wish to only register for Camp Invention, please do not fill out the registration form linked at the top of this page. The cost of Camp Invention is $235.

Camp Invention

Block Paper Scissors Art Camp - June 14th-18th, 8:30 a.m. -11:30 a.m. or 12:30 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. For grades 1-5. Students engage in a variety of visual art activities involving the use of various media in two, three, or four dimensions. Students will learn about art and theatre games to engage their creative thinking skills. The emphasis of the camp is on artistic problem posing and artistic problem solving. At Blocks, Paper, Scissors Camp, children are real artists!

Block, Paper, Scissors Art Camp

Robotics – June 14th-18th, 8:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. For grades 3-6. Students in this camp will build a working robot for a competition on the final day of camp. Students are given a task for their robot to accomplish. Students work collaboratively building their robot to complete the assigned task. This course teaches STEM-based curriculum, problem-solving skills, and social skills.

Robotics Camp

Automation and Educational Robotics - July 12-16, 8:30 am - 11:30 am. For grades 5-8. Students will learn the basics of competitive robotics. They will begin by looking at gears, gear ratios, and how they can affect the speed and power of a device. The students will then be introduced to the basics of programming using RobotC. Students will build a car and compete in a drag race at the end of the camp. Students will be using VEX EDR equipment.

Cooking Camp - July 5-9, 8:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. For grades 3-6. Students will learn how to cook for themselves and how to make healthy nutrition choices. Instruction focuses on how math, science, reading, and following directions can be used in real life. NOTE: This camp will be held at New Palestine High School.

Coding for Fun - July 5-9, 8:30 am - 11:30 a.m. For grades 3-5. Students in this camp will learn the basis of all programming languages. In this camp will receive instruction on coding. Through this came students will enhance their coding skills and knowledge through collaboration.

Enchanted Engineering - June 21-25, 12:30 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. For grades 1-4. Enchanted Engineering combines your favorite fairytale stories with STEM. Students in this camp will read popular fairytale stories and use critical thinking skills to complete a STEM activity.

Book Making- June 7-11, 8:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. For grades 6-8. Students who attend this camp will learn how to make a book, journal, or sketchbook using 2-3 different bookbinding techniques. Students enrolled in the camp will gain a sense of pride and a safe space to sketch, write, collect all of their inner thoughts, feelings, and inspiration through creating their own book, sketchbook, journal.

Reader's Theater - June 21-25, 8:30 am - 11:30 a.m. For grades 2-5. Students in this camp will work in small groups to perform different plays throughout the week. Students will create scripts and props to accompany their performances. Students will receive instruction in reading, writing, and collaborating with peers.
