THIS IS A REPRESENTATION OF a TOTEM POLE THAT THE NORTHWEST NATIVE AMERICANS MADE. THEY MADE TOTEM POLES OUT OF WOOD. They used them TO HANG THINGS ON OR to DECORATE.

THIS IS A PICTURE OF A WOODEN MASK THAT THE NORTHWEST NATIVE AMERICANS WORE. They wore them during CEREMONIal dances.

Clothing Northwest Native Americans Wore

This is what a male Northwest Native American wore. They typically wore either nothing or a cedar bark cape if they were fishing.

This is a female Northwest Native American and what she wore. They usually wore skirts made of cedar bark, and moccasins on special occasions. Children wore the same thing as the adults.

Northwest Native American Shelter

The northWest native americans made plank houses out of cedar wood.

Northwest Native American Roles OF men, women, and cHildren

Men hunted for dogs, salmon, and clamfish.

Women cooked and boiled dogs, salmon, and clamfish. Also they housekePt.

Boys fishEd, whalEd, huntEd, and basket weavEd.

Girls did the same thing as their moms. (Housekeeping, basketry, and weaving)

Northwest Native American Food

They ate fish, Indian potatoes, greens, seeds, and berries.

Northwest Native American customs/celibrations

They thanked the animals for allowing themselves to be killed.

They also had shamans that were said to cure any sickness and control the weather. To become a shaman you had to be elected by another shaman that was about to die.

Potlatches are huge parties. They gave Away their most valuable belongiNgs to demonstrate his own wealth and prestige. AlSo a potlatch was a feast to celebrate speCial Occasions such as a marriage, naming of a children, people acquiring nobility etc... By giving away his valuables, he showed that he was worthy of his social position. THAT's HOW THEY GOT NICK NAMED (SHOW OFFS).

Northwest native american Religion/beliefs

They shared their world with spirits. These spirts took many different forms including pebbles, trees, animals etc... They had the power to help and protect people. Most were helpful, but some of them were evil. The evil ones were found under the seas, deep in forests, and On mountains. These spirits would draw you in and attempt to harm you. if you survived them, you would be granted with luck and wealth for the rest of your life.

Northwest Native American Sports

One game they played was named Hoop and Pole. In this game, competitors attempted to shoot pointed sticks through a ring rolling along the ground.

Shinny is a game like field hockey with hooked striking sticks and wooden balls. Many of these games had no rules against striking other players to make points. This Caused the game to be very rough.

They also liked to play athletic sports like Wrestling.
