Cooper Library Alex Haight

Brainstorming

At first, I had no idea what I wanted to build. I thought about building a famous skate spot like the Venice triple set, or Carlsbad gap, but I realized that would be too plain and wouldn't take a lot of effort. Cooper library was my next idea because I saw how square and uniform it was; perfect for building only using squares. Plus, I had the brilliant idea of using Google earth to look at the building in 3D

Early Stages

I built the base 54x54 blocks. I was going to build it 50x50 but I realized the pillars don't extend all the way to the end of the base so I left two blocks on each side to fit the building. I then built 8 pillars 20 blocks up and added the little cross on the top like it shows in the Google earth photo.

Then I built the front facing windows. You can't see it in this photo but the sides don't have walls yet. I built the front walkway too, but not the bridge because technically that's not part of the library.

This is the inside with all the walls built. Each window is two blocks wide as you can see with the walls being 5 blocks wide.
