AGS Interview Series May 2017

In this month's installment of our interview series Senior Business Consultant Jay Sherwood shares pro consulting tips and which new Analytics tools he is most excited to share with customers. Please continue to read to find out these answers and more!

Q: What is a pro tip that you have had success using to delight your customers?

JS: I like to start out each engagement by evaluating the customer’s current state against the best possible state they could achieve. It helps to keep me focused through distractions while also giving them the ability to see what they can achieve.

Q: What helps you feel connected to the larger AGS community?

As a remote employee, Slack has been an amazing resource. It has been widely adopted by both remote and in-office employees, so it is a great place to keep in touch with people I rarely get a chance to see in person.

Q: What was the best piece of advice you ever received?

JS: When Alex Hanks was my manager, he took time out of his schedule for many weeks to get me up to speed on the back end of our system while also walking me through his consulting style. It was a career-changing set of conversations, and I will always be grateful for it.

I get excited to share all things Workspace, but I am especially pleased to get to share the new anomaly detection feature in Workspace. Product Management really knocked that one out of the park.

Q: What is your favorite Adobe product?

JS: I have been an Analytics person since Day 1.

Q: What out of the box feature is most under utilized by our customers?

JS: Events can be set to ‘Record Once Per Visit’, but you rarely see that in use. Now that customers have access to 1,000 events, they do not need to rely on segments, or calculated metrics, to de-duplicate events at a visit level (a common analytical request). Instead, they can record the event twice and let the interface automatically de-duplicate one of them for the end user. Some features in Analytics do not work with calculated metrics, so this approach has plenty of upside.

Q: If you were asked to teach a workshop, what would be the topic?

JS: Analytics and AEM Mobile.

Q: If you were not in the digital marketing space, what career path would you likely have taken?

JS: I have an accountancy degree and started out in corporate finance. If I had not made the move into digital analytics, I would still be in that line of work.

Q: What new feature are you most excited to share with customers?

JS: I get excited to share all things Workspace, but I am especially pleased to get to share the new anomaly detection feature in Workspace. Product Management really knocked that one out of the park.

Q: If you had an extra 1 hour per day, how would you spend it?

JS: We have twin 7-year olds and a one-year old. I would definitely be spending that time with my family.

Thank you Jay for participating in this month's series!
