Pearl harbor bombing By Hailey Bistodeau

Soldiers honoring the dead

Just before 8 AM a fleet of Japanese fighter planes bombed Pearl Harbor. Yamamoto Isoroku was Japans best battle strategists. Yamamoto told Tojo ( Japans leader ) that the only way to win against the US was a surprise attack in the Pacific. When the attack was over none of the battle ships docked were severely damaged.

The US never would have never thought Japan would attack Hawaii because they were four thousand miles apart. Since America did not expect an attack in Hawaii, Pearl Harbor was left undefended. Japan couldn't resist the chance to attack the US where there was no defense. On December 7th a 1,800 pound bomb smashed into the deck of the USS Arizona, destroying it on impact.
