Celebrating Diversity The Italian CultUre

All about my family traditions!

My dad is an immigrant from Italy. Italy is a country in Europe.

He is from the city Reggio Calabria, which is in southern Italy.

The Italian Flag

My aunt, grandma, aunt, uncle, and my dad took a boat from Italy to the United States. They entered through Ellis Island in 1954. My grandfather came over a year earlier to find work before they arrived.

This was my dad at 7 years old. He was scared, did not know how to speak English and was coming to a new country.
Over 12 million immigrants entered through Ellis Island from 1892 to 1954.

I speak English. My dad, aunts, uncles, and grandparents all speak Italian. I would love to learn to speak Italian one day.
