I am finding car rentals running around $200, including all taxes and fees. Just since researching today the prices have changed, common with rental cars, so they could drop. If the price drops after we book I will make sure you get the lower price.

Debit cards

Not all rental car places take debit cards and their policies regarding debit cards varies by each company and location. I am including the policy for the Augusta, GA Regional Airport location.

Rental pick up is AGS, Augusta Regional Airport

Pick-up, Monday, August 21, 2017 3:00pm - drop-off, Friday, August 25, 2017 8:00am

Alamo

Full size Chrysler 300 or similar $199.98

Debit card policy: when you pick up the vehicle you will need to show proof of a return flight and you will be charged the cost of the rental plus a $200 deposit, deposit will be refunded at time of car return and can take 3-5 business days before you see that money in your account, depending on your bank.

Thrifty/Dollar

Compact car or larger - $192.77

Debit card policy: require a $200 deposit plus you will need full coverage on your own vehicle that transfers to the rental; you must also either #1: bring a cashiers check in the amount of your deducible that they will hold OR #2: purchase their insurance at $14.95/day to cover your deducible.

Budget/Avis/Payless

Ford Fiesta $218.25

Debit card policy: Minimum of 25 years old, when you pick up the car they do a credit check* (looking for good payment history, not looking for a particular number just that you pay your bills on time and if you have rented a car with them before they want a good report from previous rental). They will then charge 2x the rental amount as a deposit, i.e. car rents for $200, they will charge $400; when you return the car they will refund $200 deposit.

*A note, we too do not use credit cards and actually have poor credit scores. A few years back we rented a car and they did a credit check and we passed enough to rent a car!

My thoughts...

Alamo seems to be the easiest with just proof of return flight and charge of rental plus $200 deposit. Debit policies have changed and this one seems to be the most rental friendly.

Insurance?

Honestly, we never get the rental insurance. This is a personal preference and the rental car location will offer you insurance when you pick up your rental. If you would like me to look into it for you please let me know. You may want to just call your current car insurance company and see what your policy offfers, or even if they offer anything. Again this is personal preference.
