More of the same Lecanto girls’ track team wins another in-county meet

CRYSTAL RIVER — The Lecanto girls’ track team made it a clean sweep of the in-county meet championships this spring, with a dominating performance Tuesday at the Crystal River Pirate Invitational.

After already claiming team crowns at home and Citrus High School this season, the Panthers added a third trophy with a total of 213.5 points, well ahead of runner-up Crystal River’s score of 156. Citrus took third with 96.5 and Seven Rivers Christian placed sixth out of eight teams with 33 points.

Ridgewood claimed the boys’ meet Tuesday with 155 points, followed by Citrus (114.5), Lecanto (103.5) and Crystal River (103.5). Seven Rivers placed sixth out of seven teams with 46.5.

The field events were owned by area participants, with all but two individual titles won by Citrus County athletes.

Madison Winship of Crystal River claimed the girls high jump with a leap of 5-feet 6-inches; Israel Diaz of Citrus won the boys high jump in 6-8; Anna Marie Florek of Crystal River won the girls pole vault in 9-0; Gavin Courterier of Citrus claimed the boys pole vault in 10-6; Alexandra Thomasson of Lecanto won the long jump in 16-7 1/4 and triple jump in 34-8; Markel Pryor of Seven Rivers won the long jump with a leap of 21-1/2; Harrison Mancke of Lecanto swept the discus (114-7 1/2) and shot put (39-5 1/2); and Sam Morris of Citrus won the discus in 129-8 1/4.

There were plenty of gold medals won on the track as well by county runners.

In the girls meet, winners were the Crystal River 4x800 relay team in 11:09.79; Danielle VanQuelef of Lecanto in the 100 hurdles in 17.45; Winship with a time of 13.64 in the 100; Ellen Farnsworth in the 1,600 in 5:49.72; the Lecanto 4x100 relay team in 55.93; Breise Teitelman of Lecanto in 1:05.21 in the 400; Erica Taylor of Lecanto with a time of 55.58 in the 300 hurdles; Jillian Felton of Citrus won the 800 in 2:30.55 and 3,200 in 12:18.82; Madison Peters of Seven Rivers claimed the 200 in 29.16; and the Lecanto 4x400 relay team struck gold in 4:36.84.

The county boys teams had their share of winners as well.

The Crystal River 4x800 relay team won in 8:54.64; Steven Thompson of Crystal River claimed the 1,600 in 5:05.65; Okechukwu Nkwocha of Lecanto won the 400 in 52.75; Sean Murray of Lecanto raced to victory in the 800 in 2:04.91; and Jacob Hensley of Citrus claimed the 3,200 in 11:07.50.
