Benito Mussolini was a fascist Italian dictator who was an ally of Hitler

This is a speech given by Mussolini in Taranto, a large port city in southern Italy

Mussolini was born in Dovia Di Predappio and he was actually named after Benito Juarez (the president from Mexico we learned about). He helped his father at his work and went to a boarding school run by monks
He joined the Italian military during WWI and reached the rank of corporal. He was wounded and discharged from the military, but he stayed politically active. He made the fascist party and criticized Italy's weakness in the treaty of Versailles
He lead the Black Shirts who increased Mussolini's power in Italy. Eventually, Italy's political system failed and Mussolini took over as dictator.
Mussolini helped Hitler in his war efforts. One of the biggest thins he did was invade Ethiopia. He also sent troops into the Spanish civil war to gain more influence

Fun Facts

-In school, he assaulted a classmate with a penknife. -Even though he had a trouble in school, he became a teacher for a short time. -He moved to Austria for a short time, but was kicked out because of his political views.
