As finals season creeps up, many students around KHS will be looking for the perfect place to set up their computers to begin the final stretch before summer. Many will want to find a cup of coffee and a fun atmosphere that will hopefully help them muddle their way through the hours of review packets and flashcards awaiting them. To help students find the best café, TKC tried out a few potential options and ranked them in a variety of categories with 1 being the best and 5 being the worst.

The Mudhouse proved to be the best coffee shop of the five, with quaint patio seating, a full breakfast and lunch menu, and the best iced latte imaginable. Considering the quality of the coffee and meal options, The Mudhouse prices are affordable. Located on St. Louis’ Antique Row, The Mudhouse is an excellent place to stop and enjoy a coffee while visiting the various shops in the area.

Foundation Grounds has a wonderful selection of coffee and food and even better prices to accompany them. The cafe has an abundance of natural sunlight and a welcoming staff, making it the type of place that you definitely want to linger. Blueprint Coffee is located in the Delmar Loop, and provides a reasonably priced cup of coffee with a decent selection of lattes, mochas, iced and hot beverages. The menu can seem a little confusing due to the way it is organized, as it appears that they do not offer a variety of traditional coffee favorites. However, it is simply a matter of knowing what to ask for, and the friendly staff is quick to help you. The layout was pretty crowded, and the decor was not super appealing, and were pretty simplistic and did not reflect a lot of personality.

Located in The Grove, Rise is a cozy cafe with a delightful menu of both coffee and food, and comfortable seating. While it can be a little on the expensive side, Rise does not disappoint in other ways. The menu, like Blueprint, can seem overwhelming for those who aren’t coffee drinkers, as the options can be a little scattered. In general, Rise’s coffee was not particularly memorable. Their atmosphere was the type of place that makes you feel right at home.

In general, Sump was disappointing. Their coffee was decent, however their menu was visually distracting with there selection poorly organized and their selection appeared extremely limited because of the menu layout. Seating was minimal, and the atmosphere was a let down. Considering the mediocracy of the coffee, the price was one that did not impress, as it could not be justified with the flavor of the coffee.
